Wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari kept Fisichella on as a test driver next season, but who knows, he could just shine for the next 5 races, outpace Kimi then what will Ferrari do?!

Best of luck to Giancarlo, would love to see him win a race or 2 this season and would be even happier to see him in F1 next season too. Massa and Fisichalla in Ferrari for 2010? :p

Good luck to the guy. First race baptism at Monza will be interesting. Will he try too hard?

Good for Fisi. Long overdue. Ferrari should have signed him up a lot earlier. He was good in the rubbish Jordan but sadly he sunk at Renault thanks to Briatore.

I sincerely wish Giancarlo the best of luck in Ferrari, he clearly really wanted this opportunity and now he's got it and thoroughly deserves it too. I'm sure he won't let this pass him by without putting absolutely everything into it. :)

After reading what Force India have said, I'm pretty sure that Fisichalla won't be returning there and I don't know why but that really saddens me, maybe coz he's been there through all the bad times then gave the team that amazing result. I do kind of feel that Force India is where he belongs. :(

Very good of Vijay Mallya to understand what this means to Giancarlo and not stand in his way though.

it will be interesting to see how fisi does. i admit that i did not think that it would be a likely scenario, as there were no long term prospects of him driving for ferrari, and also i am surprised that mallya let him go, as he could have scored more points for FI, and points make money. so i guess that there was a large cheque written which would offset any prospective loss of income to FI. still, an italian driver in a ferrari for monza! must be worth a few bob!

Hannah - the strong rumours have long been that Fisi will race for the reds in teh last races of the season then will move to a testing role next year. Massa and Fisi would be good but Fisi is sadly near the end of his career and Raikonen is contracted to Ferrari for 2010. :)

If this is the end of Fisi's racing days, then it will be the best F1 swansong since when Alain Prost won the title in 1993.

It'll be very interesting what he can do next to Raikkonen. This will give the best indication of how good Kimi and Massa really are. Unlike with Renault I think he'll get an equal oppertunity to Raikkonen at the current Ferrari, there's no reason not to, really. In fact, if they do actually want to get rid of Kimi (which they would only if it brings them the bag of money from Spain, which effectively would make Alonso a pay-driver :D) there's every reason to give Fisi every chance to show Kimi is not all that. I think it will be hard for him to match the Kimster though.

Still, hope Fisi gets another podium this year with Ferrari. Something nice to look back on after retirement.

That's the least surprising news that I've ever heard. Good luck to him though. What better way for an Italian driver to finish his career? Lets see if can be the first Italian to finish on the podium in a Ferrari since Larini in 94.

Andrew- Would be a shame to loose Fisichella if he continues to show the pace he showed in Spa. But I suppose he's living for now and driving a Ferrari was clearly a HUGE dream of his so we'll just have to wait and see what next season brings him.
Still, Fisi and Massa at Ferrari for 2010 would be fun, and in the crazy world of F1 nothing is impossible! :D

JJ, interesting comment re evaluating Kimi against Fisi. On the other hand, if Ferrari want someone to buy out Kimi's contract, or at least a large part of it, maybe they need Fisi to be way off Kimi's pace so that someone like Renault will sign him up thinking they are getting a great deal.
