Although I wouldn't like to say either way - Pat Symonds doesn't really strike me as the kind of person who would do anything like that and play dirty if it really was planned, although stranger things have happened - but I would be surprised if Pat was involved.

I thought that this was made up - I can't beleive that even Renault would do something like this, and that a driver would be insane enough to deliberately throw their car at a wall...

But the lack of info, and the 'we had a meeting but nothing came of it' comments are quite scary.

Interesting... :?

No matter how much I dislike Piquet or the whole sordid affair, it looks like he's telling the truth on this one.

Symonds claim that it was Piquet's idea (very unlikely, a junior racing driver offering to crash deliberately, I doubt Piquet is even bright enough to come up with such a scenario), plus all the evidence pointing towards Symonds being very aware what was going to happen (the low fuel plus calling in Alonso even earlier than his fuel load would allow) only increase Piquets credibility.

Look for Renault to fire Symonds and Briatore within 24 hours after the hearing.

But surely renault should have gone to the FIA and told them Piquet had offered to crash at turn 17 on lap 13 and carried it out. So even if they didn't ask him and he offered then they are still guilty of cheating by keeping quiet.. read the Piquet statment to the FIA on F1SA.com

I am now 100% convinced that Piquet was told to crash. Before I was only 50/50 either way as it seemed too farcicle but at the same time, very likely. I hope Flavio likes porridge.

Piquet would never have opened his mouth if his contract was honoured and he kept his racing seat. In his eyes he was shafted so he is only doing the right thing back as he probably sees it, shafting Renault. You will probably find that his dad will be pushing him hard on this as a while ago he was the only true brazilian world champion and not that paulista taxi driver - ayrton senna!!!
