But surely all the armchair experts who post comments on Crash.net have been telling us that there are quality Indian drivers can't be wrong!

Someone will say that little Nelson wasn't good enough for F1 next!!

Why doesn't Vijay mallya do what Ron Dennis once did?And that is go out talent spotting. he may find a good up coming young indian driver and give him backing and support to get to F1, Just like Ron Dennis did for Lewis Hamilton.

First Mallya allowed Fisi to drive for Ferrari & stating that he won't stand in Fisi's way. Now he making an honest assessment about the ability of his own countrymen. This Mallya guy is really cool & honest. He's going to be good for F1.

I think giving Chandhok and Neel Jani a chance to try out the Mclaren simulator is basically a start to what you have mentioned.
I am sure in a year or two he would himself want an Indian driver on the grid.

If he sees potential in some young talents then I am sure he will setup a driver program!

Good Luck Force India

No one asked him to put an indian driver in his team, if he has no intention to try indian drivers then he should have just called his team as "Force Mallaya" or something.

He wanted India name tag to get his team popular but at the same time shouting around the world there are no indian driver who can drive a F1 car and ****.

Bernie publicly stated he was disappointed that Karun Chandhok hadn't got a drive with Force India saying he was ready and talented enough. Vijay disagrees and that's why he's explaining himself.

@neo: Maybe you are Indian that is why you are angry?

I can understand mate! But how many Japanese drivers do you see on the grid? Heck we don't even know if there is going to be a Jap driver next year!

Why the most successful driver who is German drove a car that was Italian? Or why did the most popular team chose to run a German and Brazilian and then replace him with a Finnish driver?

Mallya knows this sport that is why he knows an Indian driver won't be able to do good 'right now'
Maybe like many other Indians you are also new to this sport that is why you are angry? (I am saying this with tongue in cheek!) Once you understand it well you will get what I mean! :)

The fact remains that no indian is good for F1 currently. But if it has to be an indian, I can think only of Narain Karthikeyan. But as every one knows he had a rift with Mallya. Thats why Mallya never mentions his name. NK finished 6th and 4th in the last two Le mans series races, and Chandok finished 19th in his last race. That itself shows who is better.
