andrew. your logic is daft, to put it mildly. there is NO reason for stewards to treat ANY car differently. and if memory serves me correctly, williams waited three laps before bringing nico in. had he come in immediately, he would have been last but closer to hamilton. by waiting three laps, he still came out last but by that time , the distance between first and last was about 10 secs more.

Gutted about his mistake as this was his best shot at a podium spot, I think he would have kept LH honest but doubt he'd have got past him on the track. It was a big error and it cost him, dont think it was a mistake that should have been made but then in the heat of the moment its easily done. Does a driver have to wait until race control say he is to punished or can the team say to race control they know a drive through is coming and pull the driver in immediately?? If they could have done that then rosberg might have avoided being dumped so far back in the safety car period, I think he had just done a lap before it SC came out.

Munro, I doubt they'd offer to serve the drive thru without being told to do it, just in case race control's cameras didn't pick it up. Also, they'd have to be psychic to know the SC was going to come out on the next lap. Personally I think the drivers should serve the drive through immediately. The three lap window was originally designed to give the team a chance to communicate with the driver via the pit board, when radio wasn't reliable. It wasn't supposed to give the team a chance to choose a strategic time that suited them.

Alan D, everything spot on, but they certainly tried to find the best strategy for the drive trough which did not work.

Just shows how dirty that part of teh track is. There were a couple other cars that looked a bit lairy on the entrance and exit of the pits. I think if he hadn't got the drive-through he would have won.

I thought the three lap window for a drive through was to give the team time to object with justification.

whilst i have sympathy for nico, what happened was potentially dangerous. the traffic island was put there to ensure separation of cars on the track and those exiting the pit road. cars on the track could have clipped the island, and if rosberg was on it or even over it at the time, there could have been a serious accident. maybe a more fully protected exit is desirable.

Whislt he went over the white line and seeing as rules are rules, it is fair enough that he got a penalty but I think it should have been an extra 10 seconds onto his overal race time. Seeing as he was the first in the pits and the exit was so dusty, the race stewarts should have made an allowance for this.

so now we have a new rule, andrew. the first person into the pits shall not get as severe a penalty as the second. interesting. there will now be a race to see who can be in the pits first!
