Aston, I feel he did the right thing not to appear in front of the FIA. They are a self-appointed "court", they don't have an independent and impartial judge, and all the leaks they organised prove they don't have a proper respect for procedure. They have no legal mandate to do what they do. They have punished Briatore despite having no corroborated evidence against him. If Briatore had turned up to defend himself then it would be argued that he was accepting their status and thus undermining his proper legal position. His lawyers were right to advise him to stay away.

You are correct, the FIA has no criminal jurisdiction over Briatore. The FIA deals with governing motor sport and balancing the needs of motoring through out the world.
It is the legal system in Singapore that should act.
Briatore should be doing a minimum of five years in one of their prisons.

Flavio Briatori is no dill, he is a smart man and if he says he is going to hammer the FIA he will have a damn good shot at it. Why he didn't show up at the hearing into said affair is nothing more than speculation by most of the posts we read on this site. F1 is full of speculation, though I'm sick of reading how Fernando Alonso is a cheat and Briatori is a cheat, those two guys get slagged off constantly. But if one cares to read between the lines it is usually by a Hamilton supporter. I find that quite ammusing on its own, wasn't it Fernando who had to let Hamilton into his garage and use his set up techniques. Hamilton is in for a real shock when Fernado is wearing red, mark my words.

Where is the concrete evidence that Flav instructed Piquet to crash? I don't mean some mystery and very convenient (for the FIA) Renault team witness, I mean actual proof!
I don't believe Piquet came up with the idea on his own, so where did it come from? You need to think outside the box here, outside Renault.
Flav is a very clever guy, so do you really think he would ask Piquet to crash, promise him the 2009 seat, and then take it away, leaving a lose cannon on the deck, with potentially disasterous results, as we have now seen.
Flav did not see this coming, so someone put Piquet up to it, in an effort to get rid of Flav, and it worked.
This is a put up job, and I hope Flav can prove it.
