After the crash, if he had kept quiet and used it as a bargaining tool for the future he would have got something from Renault/Flavio/Symonds.
Instead he chose to take it up to the FIA. This made him a un reliable human being and seperated from any future sponsors.

So he helped fix a race - its something we've all done at some point in our lives, yet most of us dont live in the public eye so get away with it.
