It seems that for some it's heads Jenson loses, tails the other guys win. If he'd kept that car advantage he had at the start of the season, no doubt he wouldn't deserve it because it was the best car. Now that the others have clearly caught and passed the Brawn in terms of development, he's criticized for pulling unlikely points finishes out of the bag against the odds to retain a championship lead he's held for the entire season.

It seems that, in some people's eyes, Rubens would be a more worthy champion because, in an identical car, he totally failed to win six of the first seven races but did a bit better later on. Or Vettel because his season has been almost the reverse of Jenson's, with rookie mistakes and poor luck early in the season, and better form - in a better car - now. Strange reasoning.

Fact is, any one of them would be a worthy champion, because any one of them can score enough points. End of story.

F1 » Button 'very happy' with Suzuka performance and pace

2009 F1 World Champion-elect Jenson Button may have finished only eighth in the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka - ceding ground to both Brawn GP team-mate Rubens Barrichello and Red Bull Racing rival Sebastian Vettel in the title chase - but afterwards he was insistent that his pace had been 'really good'.

Hope Seb wins it! Button just doesnt deserve it now, if he wins it he wont be viewed as a great champion, if he looses it hows the guy going to live with him self. Wins 7 out of the first 6 races and still didnt win the chapionship!

If you watched Sutil and Kovalainen, it was obvious that it was likely to end in tears - Button was sensible in not being too close to the action when it did kick off, or else he would have been wiped out too.

I'm not a mad Button fan, but he IS leading the championship. I know you'll come back with the "diffuser" thing again, but then Button out-performed Barrichello at the start of the season in the same car. I know Barrichello has caught up now - but Button + Brawn did a better job than anyone else in the beginning - and this is why he is the deserved leader of the championship to date.

Look at it like this :
Button had is luck / better car ( call it what you like ) at the start of the season.
Rubens came good mid season and is now scratching for points with Button ( J B is still scoring the points ! )
Vettel has been off and on all season ( mainly off ).
It's a race to the end. May the best man win!
All three of them are worthy of the championship.

His qualifying wasn't great so i'll give the naysayers that. But and it's a big but, Brawn gave both drivers a hard task when neither of them got to put in more than one flying lap...which they paid for when the yellow flags came out in session 3..Brawn did this in two sessions which was a bad decision given all the stoppages during qualy

However, starting 11th on the grid and finishing within a point of his main rival is a good result. It is not easy to pass at Suzuka and given the circumstances he did about as good as he could have done.

Not good enough for some on here but then it doesn't matter what he does, that will be the case no matter what.

I see lots of comments again from the terminally stupid who can't read let alone understand. He is saying his pace was good, well it was. He made progress through the field and was the only fast guy to overtake another fast guy in a proper move (taking Kubica, who eventually finished behind him and couldn't retake Button). Seems people forget he was given a 5 grid penalty after qualifying so to recover and pass others both on track and on a hampered fuel strategy I think he did have good pace, he was catching Barrichello in the same car. What more could he have done in the situation. I guess the clueless will say "win", but then that's why they are clueless.

dbl. button qualified 7 th and started 10th! dropped to 11th at start. yes he had a 5 place grid penalty but this ended up as only a three place drop!! so he started 10th and finished 8th.
