VW/Audi have been linked with F1 forever - and have NEVER joined, even as engine manufacturers. It would be great to see them come in when costs eventually go down. They should enter as Skoda though :D

Never trust a source that gets its history so wrong. "...has not had any F1 involvement since the halcyon Auto Union days of the 1930s, and none at all in the official world championship, in existence since 1950." Formula 1 didn't even exist until 1950. Auto Union raced in Grand Prix in the 1930's, but not Formula 1. Porsche ran an F1 team in the early 1960's, with a win by Dan Gurney in France in 1962.

Don't forget that VW is now involved in F3 Euro-series. It was maybe not such an innocent approach. And Porsche was of course already successful in F1 with the McLaren-TAG Porsche/Alain Prost combination in 1985 and 1986.

Crash are indeed correct.
Porsche was independant of the VW group at the time.
So the statement remains true.
VW have not had any involvement since the quoted dates.

A skoda whooping a Ferrari would be glorious wouldnt it?
What a comeback too! From its near death in the '90s

Last time Porsche were involved was in 1991 as an engine supplier to Arrows, and it was one of the most disastrous campaigns ever. A ****, overweight engine married to a ****, overweight and flexible chasis and journeyman drivers meant a best finish of 10th all season, only four finishes and loads of races where they didn't eveb PRE-qualify. End of season? Project canned.

Be great if this happened.....and my bold prediction--look for Porsche (or vw or audi, which ever brand they choose) to be linked to Red Bull. Red Bull already have strong ties to vw and audi any a number of series, from DTM, F3 and Dakar Rally

sauberfan. vw have had an engine presence in f3 for well over 10 years. this report is a "could be" and basically means nothing except that maybe sometime in the future, it might be advantageous to enter f1, but i cannot see it happening over the next 5 years or more
