Not wishing to be too cynical, but BE is not stupid and foresaw this being the case which allows hime to walk away from a British GP without seeming like the bad guy. He will inevitably hold Silverstone to ransom if they want to gain the GP back therefore justifying his long held belief that there is more money to be made in far flung places. Dont anyone fool themselves into thinking cares about the British fans, or any fans for that matter.
Just my thoughts :?

i often wondered how an "astute" business man like bernie, could have fallen for this, but then again, maybe he knew the move wasnt realistic, and happly finds himself in a position to suu the pants odd gillet. i hope that damon and co. will be put in a very strong bargaining position, and so help keep costs down for the fans.

Sadly Sleepy, I agree with you and have little confidence in there being a British GP in future. Bernie has more tracks shouting for a GP than he has slots in the calendar and he is going to sell to the highest bidder, even though many of those tracks have no history of racing, in countries with no history of racing. I think that before a track can be considered for a GP it ought to have at least three years of history of running race meetings, sports cars, Formula Renault style single seaters, bikes etc. I hate these circuits which are built just to secure an F1 GP, have no local crowds, and stand unused for virtually the whole year until the next GP.

What is happening is that Bernie is using Donington as a bargining chip. He wants the BRDC to upgrade Silverstone which they won't do for whatever reasons best known to themselves That's why there is all the constant deadlines and time extensions.

Just another episode in the life of Bernie Machiavelli, the prince of Formula 1.

Geno - the prince...I like it.

If there is good news in all this, it is that Bernie screws everyone equally. He does not shy away from screwing his own country as well as North America and France. Well done Lord Greedo. May you savor your ill-gotten gains in hell. :(

Andrew

Silverstone would not upgrade the circuit because the dwarf would not give them a long enough contract to make it financially viable, however he extended Doningtons contract to well over ten years, if my memory is correct, to allow them to justify the costs not to mention extending deadlines all the time. Just a another part of his twisted political games.

Silverstone will not be 'screwed over'. If BE wants the British F1 to return to Silverstone (even if it's just for one year) then it will be on Silverstones own terms. Silverstone does not need the F1 to survive.

Really not looking so good is it?! It's a real shame, I think that Donington has/had the potnetial to be one of the better tracks on the calender.

Nice circuit but the access plan is b0llocks, really hate the way the dwarf toys with the British GP, got rid of max (maybe) but bernie is still pulling the strings while going senile  hopw ari gives him a good slapping if he wins.

I reckon knockhill would be good, if your still on the track at the end of lap one your bound to win :p
