I dont understand why John Howlett thinks he "lacked pace". He had a great race for his first G.P!!! Qualified 11th and finished 10th. The other two Toyota drivers would have been happy with that

F1 needs Kobayashi and drivers like him!
Dangerous yes, part of being an F1 driver iam afraid!
Exiting? AbsoDarnLutlely! If Brazil is anything to go by!

He reminds me of the 500cc racer Noriuki(..Norifumi?) Abe! Mad bad and dangerous!
That is a compliment :) :) :) :)

Koba will be in the car in Abu Dhabi, though replacing Trulli or Glock I'm not sure. Definitely should ge t a full time ride in 2010, I haven't enjoyed a F1 debut like that for ages! Shades of Alesi's debut, I thought.

I can remember Alesi but his debut was in 89 wasnt it?
I cant remember that as i was 9 at the time!

But Alesi should have been a rally driver the way he used to "overdrive" his cars! Magic to watch and had definate skill but sadly overdriving is slower than driving!

Well we hope he (Kobi) gets another shot in the last race of the season..watching him drive reminds me of Sato driving a much better car. Torro Rosso should have Sato on the team now, he did out qualified Sea Bass and is much faster than the duo currently crashing about. Sadly, Sato didn't have a sack of gold to lay at the alter.

I think its time for Toyota to return next season with a completely new car, new drivers and management, simply clean house and start new.

The new rookie and a old dog with years of experience may be the.

Many rule changes next season, the time to get ready...Now!

Don't compare Kobayashi's debut to Fisichella's. That Ferrari is much harder to drive than any other car on the circuit. It's over complicated and the kers completely changes the braking dynamics. How Raikkonen is able to drive the car as well as he has is astonishing.

Now comparing to other rookies, Kobayashi is the best of the bunch. You can't really say Liuzzi was a rookie when he had his solid debut with Force India. I think it must be said the Force India is probably the easiest car to jump into and perform right away because of it's simpler design.

Kobayashi should replace Trulli. It wouldn't be the first time Trulli complained underperform his way out of a race seat (Renault).

Well a lot of good and valid points on this page it's enjoyable for a change.
Yes this new kid Kobi should be given a chance in F1 next year, in my opinion he done a good job. And yes Sato should be in F1 instead of some of the new crap.
As to Alesi I do remember his first race it wasn't any different from his last, his driving stile was the nearest to the inimitable older Villeneuve, temperament and all, to this day they are both revered by the Italian tifosi for it.

This is one decision that will probably be taken out of Howett's hands. It could well be that Toyota bosses in Japan may insist that he has a seat next year. Kobayashi's appearance in Interlagos may well help keep Toyota in F1 next year. To me he is certainly the best of the mid season newbies to come into F1 this year. Lets face it he had a hell of a baptism in all that water in qualifying on Saturday and he kept all the other newbies behind him both in qualifying and the race along with some other more experienced campainers. Ok he was a bit raw but he was well up for it. As with all other things time will tell.
