The saddest thing about this whole episode is that the former greatest strip of tarmac (from a bike riding perspective)in the country is now no more than a broken up, pot hole filled strip of "B" road, with no major events other than WSB booked for the future. With that in mind who is even going to put up the cash to bring the facility back up to it's sub-standard standard?!

I'm so sad to see the comment 'I feel sorry for the fans in england' on this page. It thus proves my point, Silverstone is rubbish! It's great if you live in London as I imagine most of you do but is unfair on the rest of the f1 fans in Britain. Having taken another 7 hour drive to get there this year I was desperate to see it at least get a little closer to the north. I think this year will be my last time at f1 in the uk the way it stands, I'd rather go abroad than drive almost to London again. Was good seeing all the little dissapointed hamilton and Button fans though, at least we know DC's bad!! :p

Doh!

Bernie has got exactly what he wanted - no British GP next year and he doesnt look like the bad guy.

He's smart enough to have seen through Gillet from day one, when was the last time anyone pulled the wool over his eyes?

Now all he has to do is say a multi year deal with silverstone is off the table unless they rebuild the entire place from scratch, knowing fine well they won't, and hey presto he's got a date to sell to the highest bidder who wants a piece of his cake - under Bernies terms of course.

The man is a self aggrandising little git who's public pronouncements recently beggar belief, but when it comes to a deal, he knows his stuff.

"Bollocks. All these new tracks may have great facilities but the actual ribbon of tarmac are tedious and boring."

Maybe, but none of them are as boring as Silverstones layout. I can't really think about another more boring and uninspiring layout, except for maybe monza. Flat airport track with high speed and no overtaking, no thanks! Such a shame that Donington wasnt able to do what they promised, it would be a much much better track for the British GP

Silverstone boring? You ever driven Maggots and Becketts flat out?

Maggots and Becketts is the only part of the circuit with any soul. But these two corners does not make up for the rest of the layout, and even more importantly they do not promote overtaking, if anything they make it harder to overtake

Reading through the comments, why do so few people know how to spell "Donington"? I've never known a place name to be so consistently mis-spelled. It's not DoNNington, ffs!

Anyway, I'm delighted they won't be hosting the GP. When I was there for Superleague Formula I was relieved to see the spectator areas have by and large been left untouched by all the half-baked construction work. Now hopefully it'll be safe from the thick spectator fencing that hosting a GP would require, so the decent spectating/photographer spots will remain.

Now bring back the Dunlop bridge too. It's disgraceful that such an iconic feature was removed.

There is a lot of people posting that there will be no british gp, there is no way bernie will not have a british gp after 2 british champs back to back. For whatever reason he wanted to get away from silverston but it has backfired. I just want moto gp back to donington silverston is a crap bike track, or maybe brands but not silverston.

Hopefully most of the funding now needed at Donington was to pay for all the pit buildings and things such like. I liked the new track layout and seriously hope the tarmac has been laid already. And reinstate the Dunlop bridge as the track's character is somewhat missing without it.
It's going to be very hard for investers to see how they're going to get their money back now. Will we see Simon Gillet on the next series of 'Dragons Den' only to be told 'I'm Out!' by all the Dragons!!

The Dunlop bridge is dead, it was condemned a couple of years before it was demolished to "make way for F1". As for "looking after the staff and future of the circuit". Who exactly is going to invest the £2m to sort the mess out and get it back to normal when its status as a Grand Prix circuit has evaporated. The tunnel requires doing again (with drainage), the circuit needs a complete new surface once the trenches across it have been filled in and the infield is once again a single hill like it was in 1987 before they tiered it to get more crowd space for the MotoGP. The whole place looks like the Somme circa 1916. The circuit is virtually bankrupt as it is ffs.

Various local businesses near the circuit complain that their business will suffer massively if the circuit goes pop. I wonder exactly how much of their profits over the last 30 years they have shared with the track...All the local community (albeit a minority, but the majority are pretty silent) has done (apart from backing the F1GP in 1993) is complain about traffic and noise - well maybe they will get their way now, I imagine the place is going to be very quiet for some time. I wouldn't be surprised if the "brown site" soon became a housing estate or overflow car park / part of the airport once Tom isn't around to see over it, mind you Kevin would have somewhere to play with his tanks! :)
