The list of F1 driver salaries in 2009 - happy news if your name is Kimi Raikkonen, but perhaps less pleasant reading for newly-crowned world champion Jenson Button...

You want value. If Rubens had stayed at Brawn he couldn't even afford his super license next year. And Kimi WILL have to come down to earth to get a ride. Fired from Ferrari and still wants his regular or usual pay scale. Not going to happen Kimi.

Good these are disclosed...explains everything about Ferrari's decision...and the reason Kimi is still expensive...teams, in a slowdown would not be ready the balance of Kimi's current salary and his Ferrari payout...

Salary paid is proportional to the Brand Value enhanced by the driver plus his performance, and strictly in that order. Which is why Toyota's Howett said that the team's win is *NOT* the criteria for
Toyota to stay-put. Its the brand value!!!

We own two BMW's and one Merc, currently aspiring to buy an Aston-Martin,but have never "dreamt" about buying a toyota. But u know what!Put kimi in toyota-f1 and let them release a suitable car, I'd be amongst the first to buy the car.Not bcoz Iam a fan,but bcoz its brand value has shot up!!!

Massa is paid only so much bcoz that IS the perception about him-an OK driver.
And Kimster gets to be paid that much bcoz of the brand value he brings in.

HT, you are right to question the accuracy of the list. However, assuming it is correct, if you ignore the top three who are all both former WDCs and great drivers, Button's 5m looks pretty good. If he is complaining that he took a substantial pay cut this year then you have to ask what he was on when Honda ran the team, and looking at his track record pre-2009, you really have to scratch your head and wonder how he managed to get onto such a high salary in the first place. Remember as well that BAR also spent 20m on him to buy out his contract from Williams.

Could someone clue me in on why Kimi is paid so much more than anyone else?? I know he's a WDC and can be the quickest on the circuit but besides that, what does he offer Ferrari? Or what did he offer, past tense, to Ferrari?
