The list of F1 driver salaries in 2009 - happy news if your name is Kimi Raikkonen, but perhaps less pleasant reading for newly-crowned world champion Jenson Button...

John US, when MS went to Ferrari he got a huge salary, by both 1998 standards and F1 standards. No other driver came close to his salary. And he was worth every penny that Ferrari paid him. Ferrari was a dominant force for years. I suspect that when MS retired that Ferrari bosses said they needed another superstar to replace him and got stuck in thinking that they needed to pay a superstar salary to go with it.

Sunny, I also read that Button paid some money to Williams which I thought was several million, but the BBC reported that BAR had to buy out his contract for 20m.

goes to prove you can fol some of the people etc. Which clown at Ferari said yes to Kimi's contract? Sutil must have felt real bad last year when hit up the chuf by Kimi when he did'nt even manage to mis Sutil.
Perhaps best system would be to pay a basic salary then so much per point from the previous year's standings. Then they would have an incentive to race in the curent yeat to maintain their standard of living. Or is that to simple?

FYI Sunny & Alan D

JB Was bought out of 2 contracts with Williams, The first he coughed for himself to preclude himself leaving BAR after finishing 3rd in WDC '04, where Williams still felt they had a rolling contract from 2000 with him.
Then Honda paid to extract JB from a new '06 Williams contract, as he didn't want to join Williams after they lost BMW for '06,I believe the new '06 deal was part of them relinquishing his rolling deal for '05.

Nige, thanks for clarifying that. That makes sense. Still doesn't tell me why Honda thought he was worth so much, but it was a nice little earner for Williams.

They should have posted all of the drivers salaries. I would have liked to have seen what Bourdais was paid compared to Buemi.

How does Rubens afford a private jet with such a pedestrian salary? I assume he took a massive pay cut too.
