Sorry to say I am losing faith on all these multi-billion pound new F1 venues. Another bore-fest in terms of racing and I can see where all this is going. Bernie is basicallty using F1 revenue to generate such rich people's playground so they can have this wonderful place and for their own inter-migling PR stunts to attrract more wealth amongst them selves. F1 used to be something we could hitch-hike to or have an interesting rough and ready journy to get to, camp on even! Now days its looking more and more like something us mortals can never attend.

They could have built 10 Spas with change spare on that budget... RIP to people's F1.

So Felix,you have no objections if the British government spend hundreds of millions to compete rather than using the money on schools,hospitals and other vital sevices?

Good point Smokng jo. however nobody is forcing the British gov't to spend the money. It's a choice between priorities just like anything else in life.

The traditional circuits have far more character than this horible circuit. It's completely lifeless and wouldn't look out of place on the moon.

I get your point but you'll find that THIS goverment has wasted the money on civil servants, hospital manager etc, most of the money never gets to front line services.

My GF's sister is a very respected eye surgeon, she ends up having to buy her own instruments as she can't rely on the right stuff been there.

They'd be better spending it on the GP

RMedia, i agree. bernie's vision is to create an f1 season of playgrounds for the rich and famous. problem is the rich and famous are very fickle and fashion concious and when f1 goes out of fashion and they all leave these artificial oasis' what happens then?
i'm old enough to remember a time when f1 almost went to the wall. where were all these celebs then? it was the grass root f1 fans in EUROPE that kept the series going when it was on its knees.
nothing lasts forever and the day will come when the bubble bursts and the grass roots fans will have been driven away by the greed of the series owners. who will save it then?

2pac, yes, I think Brundle said it cost 800m to build the track, plus they paid Bernie 60m for this years race. That is 3m per car or 6m per team, or about 40m per overtaking manoeuver. Racing could be improved significantly if they got rid of the double diffuser and got rid of the incredibly high performance carbon fibre brakes. Other things like driver-adjustable wings and KERS all add to the costs but don't improve overtaking at all. They just make it harder to find areas of a track where a car performs relatively poorly.
