I agree with LH. Although there is no excuse for such a big organisation to start the season with such a shed, lets look at what happened at McL versus what happened at Ferrari. McL started with a shed, turned it into a bloody good car. Ferrari started with a slightly posher shed, and it stayed a posh shed with the excepption of Spa and a bit of Monza.

F1 » Hamilton: No other team could do what McLaren did

Lewis Hamilton admits that he is full of awe for the manner in which McLaren-Mercedes transformed arguably the slowest car on the F1 grid in 2009 into the fastest come season's end.

The possible return of Ron Dennis? Could be interesting. I didn't like the guy but he was certainly a good team manager and got things done. Certainly a lot better than Whitmarsh.

The possible return of RD was made possible by LDM having caused the dawn fall of MM.

I for one am glad Mclaren continued competing to the end of the year, just as Renault did last year. I felt cheated last year that teams like Honda just gave up half way through for the sake of 2009. Yes, it paid off (via Brawn) but I felt it was disrespectful of the fans.

Hannah, I think you are right that Force India were a big surprise turnaround, more surprising than Mclaren I felt. Keep in mind that FI had some staff seconded to them by Mcl Mercedes as part of a technical assistance program and that seemed to work very well. I'm not sure why they had that programme or if other small teams will benefit in a similar way next year.

He's full of awe at how deep Mclarens pockets are. What other team could've built a new car before the season ends...

No one could do what McL did this year, but Renault (Alonso) basically did the same thing last year, crashgate notwithstanding. Ah, but this is Lewis go fans go.

Spanners all of you and more no story reporting. What I want to read about is what drivers do when they eructate!

Is it recycled in KERS or is there a methane capture system that is in secret development.

Oh please, is it March yet?

I wonder how great Mclaren would be without the £80 million + engines and gearbox Mercedes give them every year. It would be fascinating to see how well they get on alone.

Andrew why do you question Whitmarsh? And how do you know that Ron is better? Both have two marks of shame lumbered upon them by their respective drivers.
However Whitmarsh presided over a team that gained 2.7 seconds in a season, yet that is not good enough for you to at least give some kind words to the guy? sheesh

JET - I don't like either but Whitmarsh is an FIA fanboy. At least Ron Dennis wasn't scared to tell Mosley what he thought. RD has presided over McLaren and has been at the head of huge success. Whitmarsh has only been at the head of trouble and a crap car.

I'm surprised at how ill-informed you are about F1 Andrew. If you'd watched the latter half of the season you would have seen the car was anything but crap.

They started about equal to Ferrari and beat them by one point. The only difference is that Ferrari got closer to the pace a bit sooner than McLaren. I don't see how what they did is so special.
