I agree with Brawn on this one. The Japanese have different ways in cutting cost for the survival of the company.. And for them F1 is not a priority unlike Williams, Mclaren or Ferrari who needs F1 for their business. Toyota and Honda entered the Formula 1 to advertise and promote their company and not make profit out of the competition.. Williams once said the F1 is their business.. then with the 2 Japanese Company, F1 is not their business, its just a moving slogan for their company.

with the freeze on engines, it would be quite possible for honda and toyota to return in a year or two, and pick up the pieces. i never saw it mentioned, but did toyota state if they would supply engines, or not????

I think that Toyota said that they were leaving F1 completly, ie no engines either. :)

Hannah - you are correct. Toyota have completely withdrawn from F1 but are staying in NASCAR.

I prefer it when it's private teams with the car companies sticking to just supplying engines.

Remember how it used to be with, with teams like Rial, March, Footwork, Colini, Simtek.... the list is almost endless. Some of them had one car, designed & built in the back shed, run literally out the back of the truck with barely enough guys to run a pitstop. The PR guy was also the front right wheel gun man.

I guess the advances in technology means you can never go back to running a team how things used to be but I'm glad to see the new private teams. It will be interesting to see which of the rookies does best next year.

Ferrari and Mercedes? Mercedes? Really?

How is that for an oppertunistic statement.

Sure Mercedes was there in the Hitler days and the first decade of F1, but other than that, they haven't been in F1 since they joined the Sauber team. To name them in the same league as Ferrari is a bit much I would say.

If we are talking modern F1 Honda and Renault have had way more involvement in F1 as far as I'm concerned.

But I've read today that the Mercedes Brawn deal is all but done now, so I wonder if that has anything to do with anything... :D

The Japanese or Ford will not be back because they are aware that it is very difficult to beat the likes of Mac Ferrari Brawn Red Bull etc.

Only manufacturers we will see in F1 in future are those that can use their experience and cost to benefit their sports cars eg Ferrari McLaren perhaps Aston Martin

General car manufacturers are better off competing in other forms of motorsports Rally Sedans

Was looking at some financials yesterday for an economics class I am enrolled in. Anyone else notice that Nissan has shifted a ton, $700b US, into the Infiniti arm called, International Competetion division?

Infiniti in F1, sounds awesome to me!
