I'd love to see Carroll get a race drive at Virgin - he is really talented and deserves a chance. Sadly, I think he will lose out to the well-funded (but equally talented) di Grassi. Both guys deserve a shot, it's not right that they have been overlooked by F1 teams in the past. Virgin is the best home for Carroll, failing that i'd love to see Renault take a punt on him.

Richard

Adam Carroll is from Northern Ireland, so like Eddie Irvine would be considered a Brit - and like Irvine would have the UK flag and anthem if he won a race. Hopefully wherever he is from he wouldn't get slated like Hamilton and Button do.

Richard,

I'm not a wiki-ist so this is only from memory, but I believe that the colours and shamrock logo represent Ulster, his home province. He is British, and the FIA, post-Irvine, I believe have a written rule that only the 'Country' (ie the Union Flag of 'The United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland') flag may be flown - not even the flag of Northern Ireland, which legally isn't a country, it is a 'constituent country' of GB+NI.
Ulster, BTW, has legal/ceremonial standing as a province of the island of Ireland but actually spans Northern Ireland and Eire.
He may also claim dual nationality which would ****** things up further
Anyway, main thing is let's get him in F1

piercarlo. the ulster flag has the red hand of ulster on it. the shamrock is associated with the republic. carroll has been racing in a1gp as IRISH. i agree he has dual nationality, but the brits will call him british and the irish will call him irish. i hope that if he gets in, he will choose one country or the other, and so avoid confusion. and did you know, the most northerly part of "the south" is further north than "the north" (useless info number 199!)

Under articles 2 and 3 of our constitution of the Republic of Ireland, people in Northewrn Ireland can claim both Irish passports and citizenship. I think it will be up to the FIA to respect which anthem Adam chooses to have played should he ever be in the position to have it played. He had no problem standing to attention to the Irish anthem for all his wins in A1GP and we Irish hope he will do so again. He is racing on a licence granted by Motorsport Ireland, so I think this will probably be the deciding factor as to what anthem would be played. Having been at Brands in May, I heard people from both north and south sing the anthem, a win in sport can be a great uniting factor.

Eugene Laverty rides under the Tri-colour and he is from the North...Its really up to the individual to decide what nationality they want to represent, or like E Irvine go the route of neutral which i think is the correct path..He wore a Shamrock....Not a Tri Colour or Not a Union Flag..

Funny thing was that while all us Irish were running onto the main straight in brands to see the trophy presentation, there was the odd soul singing Ireland's call, the song written for the Rugby team, who's players are from the whole island of Ireland. Maybe that would keep everyone happy. It is wishfull by us all to hope he will win a race, he defitely has the talent and commitment if he can get the car!!! As long as the **** up that the FIA made when the Jordan cars finished 1,2, in Spa, they played the british anthem because they forgot the team was Irish and didn't have the Irish anthem there. They remembered when Frentzen won in France the next year. Go Adam and make them play again.

Way to go Adam! Way to go! If I had a company (like Virgin) I would sponsor you, sadly I dont (though may yet have one day....)so I wish you good luck and hope to see you on the grid in 2010.
