Jarno Trulli has warned the powers that be not to tinker too much with F1 in an effort to make it more exciting.

I agree, stabilty of regulations is the best way to drive down costs, make racing closer. It could be argued that after a few years you would effectively have a one make series, but is that a bad thing, one make series can provide the closest racing of all.
Lets fix the regs, fix the scoring system and then go racing for ten years without change.

One thing that F1 can emulate from NASCAR is its fan-friendly atmosphere. F1 nowadays feels cold, closed from the true F1 fan. They're catering for the corporate market that come and go with every recession, but a true F1 fan will stay with the series forever.

M Bee: You are so right on that one. Formula One is to focused on the quick big dollar investment of short term corporate investments rather than building a commitment to the fans and their long term loyalties. I have been a F1 fan from the start of the Shumi days. I was also a Nascar fan then and went to several races a year. I have been to a few F1 races and can say what is missing is the fan friendliness and at a Nascar event you can feel the dirt, debris and rubber hitting you because the asphault is only a few feet from the fans. In F1 the run off area is so big that you don't get a up close experience with the cars. Then the drivers are even more disconnected from the fans.

The problem is that F1/Bernie doesn't want to learn from other supposed 'lesser' series, "We're F1, we're the best". With that kind of attitude no wonder fans are disconnected from the action, etc
Bernie doesn't give a toss about the 'real fans' - it's all about the corporate bods in their boxes.

Yes, but NASCAR is also making some mistakes. The newer tracks they are building are all the same, the fans call them "cookie-cutters". Plus they are dropping traditional races like Rockingham in favor of places like Fontana. TV ratings and raceday attendance are way down. Let F1 copy the good and not the bad, or the ugly...

Trulli is on another planet if he thinks Nascar have kept the rules consistent in recent years, they've been fiddling with the rules as much as, if not more than, F1

JD Power is right. Apparently NASCAR's rule book is not changed frequently because of the use of obsolete technologies (live rear suspensions, carburetors, leaded gasolines, steel tube frames and so on) The reality is quite different: every year NASCAR's rule-makers make many amendments in their book. Even during the season, some rules go trough revisions and changes.

I became interested in motor racing in the mid fifties and have remained through all the changes in Grands Prix racing. Smaller motors, larger motors, front engines, rear engines, Turbochargers, wings , slick tyres, whatever!
Bernie's changes, in the beginning, benefited everyone in Grands Prix. Today Grands Prix racing doesn't exist. It stopped with the commercialization of the racing and denigrated into the same sort of circus format previlant in America. The same thing holds true for the "fan experience." In 1961 at the Nurburgring, I walked up to Dan Gurney and Jo Bonnier and asked for their autographs. They both obliged me and said. "Thank you," with a smile.

Not with today's Heroes!
