F1 » McLaren chief pays tribute to 'fantastic team player' de la Rosa

His recruitment might have been criticised by some, but McLaren-Mercedes team principal Martin Whitmarsh contends that Sauber could scarcely have signed a better man for the job in F1 2010 than 38-year-old Pedro de la Rosa

Good for McL releasing Pedro. Some teams would have dragged it out until the rides were gone. McL has really cleaned house and set the table correct. Merc leaving was the best thing for this team. Re setting the entire team to suit Button as well as Lewis is a major step in team unity. Good job Martin.

I see the above poster can still find a reason to criticise Mercedes over Pedro De La Rosa's departure!

Well I guess Mercedes are also to blame for Mclarens Success then!
To blame for proping McLaren up to the tune of over £100million a year
To blame for Lie gate
To blame for Spy gate
To blame for 3rd world poverty.

Basically think of an argument, find the real culprit and substitute the real reason with the word Mercedes. Welcome to the aboves rationale......

The resentment over Mercedes departure will sting even more this season! and 2011 when the money dries up what are McLaren going to do? Advocate a budget cap of course! The irony will, no doubt, be lost on the above poster :rolley

I'm with Robo1, McL will become a more likeable, less maccheavellian team now - much as I stuck up for Ron I think he was his own and the teams worst enemy at times. And I think his words re PDLR were genuine, and why not? - 7 years is loyalty enough these days, lets hope he doesn't make a prat of himself at Sauber.

You agree with Rob01 that Mclaren have changed,
Rob cites mercedes departure as the reason, which is absolute rubbish(as per norm)
Why do you think this is the case?
You allude to RD's departure is this your view?

The facts are that McL has announced all intentions to treat Button as an equal. Including taking away Lewis's head engineer and re grouping the entire team. This did not happen while Merc was there. FACT. Secondly, the bull crap continues at Merc's new outfit. Lying about wanting button, saying Ross decides team orders, and taking away Nico's number. These are the types of behavior that McL possessed while under Merc influence. NO MORE.

Seem to me the sponsor are getting a lot more power. Of co**** Santander said they did not demand Alonso. But they opted for Pedro over Fisi and got their way. My guess is that Alonso was a demand as well. A good one but none the less demanded. Sponsors pulling alot more of the strings now that money is tight.
