F1 » Ickx: Rosberg Schumacher's biggest enemy in F1 2010

Contrary to the popular school of thought, it could well be returning F1 legend Michael Schumacher who has difficulty in keeping up with Mercedes Grand Prix team-mate Nico Rosberg in F1 2010, argues Le Mans hero Jacky Ickx

For those of you who doubt that Johnny was faster than Schumacher just check out Johnny Herbert's website.

Andrew, I think you are thinking of the Edsell perhaps. The trouble with wiki-like knowledge is that it seems to think that truth is a democracy. If enough people vote for Benz inventing the motor car then so be it. But it isn't just wiki that takes liberties. There was a poll a few years ago which voted the motor car as Americas greatest invention. But you can't argue with the newspaper articles from the 1800s which still exist in archives all over the world.

Alan - it was on Top Gear a while ago so may not be 100% but it certainly wasn't a Merc. I agree with what you say about wiki. I could write something about the venturi effect which I know nothing about and people would take it as gospel as it was on wiki.

Andrew, there are lots of milestones along the history of the car. You can't define the car just as an internal combustion engine because in 100 years when we all drive electric cars, a petrol car might seem as absurd as a steam engine, and Anderson who built an electric carriage c.1835 would be the father of motoring.

No-one doubts that Benz was the first (just) to build cars as an industry. Prior to that cars were built by enthusiastic engineers, or by rich enthusiasts who commissioned engineers. Benz was the first to build cars with a view to selling them to members of the public.

Johnson, why don't you let it rest! That's what one should do when loosing an argument.
The first car/carriage to move under its own power wasn't a BENZ, it doesn't matter that the power unite was steam, before that it was pedal power so it cannot be said that it moved under its own power, much later on when the petrol engine was already being refined steam found itself back into the motorcar by the famous DOBLE car co, and in recent times there was an ongoing project for record breaking intended to be powered by steam, also the Rover gas turbine was still called a car as was the car powered by the Winkle.

Herbert faster than Michael? what the hell? are you people high? its funny that it says it on Herberts website, what a tool.

As for Ickx, i ask him, what has Rosberg done to make him think that Michael would have trouble beating him? in 4 full seasons of racing Rosberg has done exactly nothing in the sport. And before you say ''the car was bad'' Vettel won in a toro rosso. When Nico looked like getting a half decent result, in Singapore, he choked. This isnt a opinion by the way, its fact. So to those people out there that think Michael wont beat Nico, sorry, he will
