F1 » Heidfeld out of Renault running as he accepts Mercedes reserve role

Nick Heidfeld's career as an active F1 driver could be over at the age of just 32, it appears, after the BMW refugee agrees terms to complete an all-German 'super team' at Mercedes Grand Prix as test and reserve driver in 2010

There is no way that Heidfeld doesn't deserve a seat, he's easily been a match for Kubica for the last 3 years and Kubica is meant to be the next big thing. Nick is quick with some brilliant overtaking moves (Silverstone 08 :D) and also the definition of consistent, was is 35 chequered flags in a row? What mid-top field team wouldn't want that?

Anyway, good luck to him and I really hope he gets the good seat he deserves in 2011!!! :)

Sorry to hear about Heidfeld, but if Schumacher can't deliver due to neck problems, Nick is in great shape to take over!!

On another note, that leaves the door open at Renault for Jacques Villeneuve - who needs to spank Kubica's bum!!

There alot of drivers in F1 cars in 2010 that maybe should not be. One driver that should be back in a seat ahead of most is Jacques Villeneuve. Tough luck ick, but you have had many chances.

What a shame, firstly on two counts.. It is really a shame that BMW have pulled the plug on their F1 programme.. Everyone knows that you can't just march into F1 and say you're going to win a title in 3 seasons (awesome Hinwill wind-tunnel or not).. Secondly, Nick is a superb, probably not awesome or brilliant, but I've always rated Nick highly, he's basically a German Mark Webber, he's just never had the car under him.. :/

There are many drivers who will occupy race seats on the 2010 grid that are far less deserving.. All the best for Nick in 2011!

so the question now is, who'll be at renault? looks like heidfeld was first choice and he has now gone, so the only choices seem to be klien? petrov? villeneuve!?

personally, i'd go for klien. he's still very young and has a lot of testing experience under his belt. good for the renault team which will value some good test experience. however, i've a bad feeling petrov will get a money drive. he's decent, don't get me wrong, i'm just not sure he is f1 material yet. then again, that's what i said about kobayashi and look what he did.

sokudo, i fully agree that christian deserves a seat. especially after his good performances at le mans.

i reckon the frosty relationship between kube and nick, ruined any chance of nick going to renault

now we know why haug was calling nico, nick! haug is pretty ruthless, and if schumi or nico do not live up to the hype, we may see a quick subsitution during the season, prior to a full contract next year.
