thats computer design , for you. the computer said a plastic screw would do, but didnt account for the down pressure.

seriously, this is a MAJOR mess up! there is really no excuse for such an event to happen. the wings are supposed to be weight tested, but if it can come off so easily, it looks as if there was not enough testing!

Well it's a brand new car from the ground up, I suspect it'll happen a few times.

Curious too see how quick it actually is, the whole CFD argument is intriguing, I noticed Newey said you can't do without wind tunnel time...he knows a thing or two.

That's bad...

I remember the last time a wing came off by itself was on a Jordan I guess with Firman behind the wheel. It was the rear wing and it suddenly broke during the race. Apparently it had already done a couple of races and should have been replaced but Jordan was strapped for cash.

I also remember Sauber not starting a race once because IIRC they were uncertain the wings were safe.

If it just broke off without hitting a curb or something that doesn't bode well for the build quality of this car. Then again, let's hope it's a one time thing.

Things falling off F1 cars is not that rare. Being hit by the part IS.

Laying the blame for the failure on the fact that the car is largely computer designed is unfair - believe me, you don't need a computer to screw-up!

I remember Michael Schumacher driving down the pitlane with driveshafts and other bits falling off the rear of his Ferrari and scattering all over the place - Human error is always the primary cause (especially as humans program computers - so please don't blame the computers - they only do what you tell them!)

I'm sorry but some of the silly replies in this thread are simply due to a lack of understanding.

The front wing fell off, but this could be to numerous factors. Yes the aerodynamics has been designed using CFD procedures, but also every component would have been stress analysed using FEA techniques. The engineers will know what magnitude of mechanical and/or aerodynamic force are stressing each component on the vehicle, they are not that clueless you know.
