F1 » Anderson: USF1 has asked to miss first four races

I seem to remember that one of the prime purposes of USF1 was to show we Europeans what good old American know-how and go-get-it could do. Well now we know. US racing is great but their car construction skills are stuck in the dark ages. If the US racing industry wants to save any face they should be begging Anderson et al to close their doors before the sound of laughter drowns out the sound of Anderson's excuses.
Instead let the FIA decide between Lola, Prodrive, Stefan now so they can join F1 next year with a credible team and drivers. Anthony davidson please.

Not good enough. Team USF1 have had plenty of time to organise all this. Let Stefan GP take their place. At least they will be there for the star of the season.
Let USF1 try and enter again, for 2011 if they are that serious.

caz, i totally agree with you. without "yank" bashing the americans should be hanging their head in shame at this debacle but the situation drags on and on.... why?

because the reality is the majority of americans don't look beyond their own borders and so don't know or worse don't care about f1. and this lack of history, lack of feeling and lack of passion for the sport at grass root level is the reason, imo, that they should never have been given the slot in the first place.

come on usf1 do the decent thing, admit failure, move on to irl or something and let a credible team take the allocated f1 slot.

You can't just give the first 4 races to Stefan and then see if USF1 show up, nor can you give the slot to Stefan for 2010 and tell USF1 to come back in 2011. First it's not fair to Stefan and second it's not fair to Lola or Prodrive who were both there before Stefan.

If you were Stefan and were offered the first four races but then possibly/probably be asked to step down, would you accept this? I wouldn't. If you were Stefan and were given the slot for 2010 but told that you probably only had the slot for the year, would you accept that? Probably not either. If you were Lola or Prodrive and saw that Stefan were given the slot ahead of you, would you be happy?

Yank, I can remember discussing baseball caps but not exactly what we'd discussed. I do remember though predicting that they wouldn't unveil the new car before the superbowl was over so that they got maximum coverage in the sports pages of the US media. Well, I was right in the sense that they didn't announce any drivers or unveil any new car whilst the NFL season was still running.

When Ken Anderson says that in an ideal world they would like to miss the first four races he should be saying in an ideal world we would like to be on the grid for the first race, it sounds as if they arn't that confident about being at the fourth?

Usf1 were given the slot as they promised to use cosworth engine. This was a presquite of getting an entry. Prodrive had another engine deal lined up (I believe it was toyota) so were denied a place as they refused to use cosworth.
Now along come Stefan and say we are ready but want to use to use toyota power.
Stefan is a new team so surely must agree to the concord for new teams which means they MUST use cosworth.

If the fia bow to pressure just because stefan turn up with a car and some mechanics it is no different to them allowing usf1 dispentation.
What if prodrive or lola bought the usf1 entry got some bits together put them in a container and shipped them to the first race what would the the fia do then.
To me both situations are rediculous. The extra were added after B.E & M.M panicked about a break away last year and the threat of manufacturers leaving. Well normal service has resumed we don't need usf1 or stefan
lets leave them behind and go racing with the teams we have

dpm. prodrive wanted to use MERC engines.

calvin. fully agree with you, i have been trying to say the same for the last few weeks. stefan is trying to force itself onto the grid, and there are many unanswered questions about that team, which seems to be using a 2009 toyota (modified) and a 2009 engine. basically therefore a customer car. something that is banned! if they get on the grid, i can see a lot of lawsuits flying around!

stefan should just wait in the "queue" for any possible vacancy.
