F1 » F1 drivers are not 'real men' anymore, rues Webber

Red Bull Racing star Mark Webber - who has recently set up his own GP3 Series team with Christian Horner - contends that F1 cars are now so easy to drive that competitors who used to be gladiators are no longer 'real men'

Now he sounds like a grandad reminiscing good old times. If the cars are so easy to drive why there are so many crashes? And no, I would not want to see old time racing with so many fatal accidents.

IMO racing is about speed and tactics that involves accurate and clever decisions.

And I dont want to see flamboyant Briarore types, bring another Brown, anytime.

Well once again Crash has provided a title which is a little out of context with what MW had said. Personally I think the real men were around prior to the 70's, where the size of your nuts really mattered. Anyway the modern F1 car is still quite a handful for the select few who get to drive them, plus it is one thing to be able to put a lap together, but quite a different thing to be able to overtake and race. Not long to go before the flag drops! :D

No disrespect to Webber, he's a great guy, but if the cars are easier to drive, and he's had all the experience of the lower classes, where's his driver's title?

So there are no real men in F1? Must just be a bunch of girls who beat Webber all the time then. He thinks that people should have to fight their way up like him and not be helped into F1. I assume that if he thinks Alonso will chew up people like that then he is going to do the same to his team mate who came through the Red Bull junior program. It would be embarrassing if a real man like him failed against someone with the disadvantges Vettel has.

I never understood people why a racing driver should need physical strength to drive a car. By Webber's definition Clark, Fangio and the like were not real men either as their cars had no real grip and therefore didn't need power steering.

if the cars are that easy to drive then why did GIANCARLO FISICHELLA find it so difficult to master the FERRARI and if mark is a real man why is he last in the Racing drivers, Star in a Reasonably Priced Car on top gear.
