Former series champion Timo Glock has said that GP2 sets something of a precendent amid talks of split F1 qualifying.

Nevermind GP2.... how about F1 20 years ago when there was 26 grid positions availible yet 40 cars to get them!

In qualifying there was 30 on the track... and if I recall... it was a bit more than 6 seconds difference from 1st to last... plus Monaco was surounded by walls.... this should be a relative walk in the park compared to then!

The man speaks sense, well said Glock. This is not one lap qualifying where there's only one car on track at a time, qualifying involves potentially all cars on track, that's the way it is. No one has a divine right to a traffic free lap, you deal with the situation you're given the best you can and if you deal with it better than the rest you will qualify well.
