F1 » Kubica set to stay at Renault in 2011...but change in 2012

Renault star Robert Kubica - arguably the most impressive driver of F1 2010 to-date - has hinted that he will remain on-board at Renault into 2011...but 2012 could well be a different story

Renault is a good place for Kubica for now and 2011.
Knowing that the team is 100% behind him is hugely important. He wouldnt get that in RB which openly favours Vettel. Ferrari makes insane decisions or statements recently so untill they get themselves sorted out Renault is the best option.

@Cobalt, I agree. For all the reasons we have discussed in the past he should stay. Who knows what will happen he might stay longer if they continue to develop the way they have. They are looking good for a podium somewhere down the line. Hopefully sooner then later. :) Ed

Wow, what a surprise at the first three posters! :-o
Agreed, agreed, agreed. I hope Ferrari and Red Bull are happy with Webber and Massa, they have been performing quite well, look at Valencia *cough* *cough*. Renault is the best option, until alonso leaves ferrari (fat chance) or hamilton leaves McLaren (never say never). RK Renault....let's go!

It is funny that it is pretty much just the three of us that care about this guy and his career. He needs to do some burnouts (in the middle of whatever town or city he happens to be racing at) after the race and get arrested by the cops and get some people interested in him. :p :) Ed :D

You are right, he is to sensible for international f1 followers and Polish fans dont read Crash, apparently.

But wait till he will win few races and start threatening or be in the middle of controversy involving Lulu, Vettel or Alonso. The posts will mount :)

They should just name it the cobaltspaghettieddieolek forum. There are people out there, but let's be honest, why talk about a guy who comes in 5th when you can talk about a guy who crashes or a guy who whines or a guy who cheats (allegedly). Those who don't follow autoracing do not realize that RK won the renault series which is now GP2 at age 20 or some of his other exploits (many in a cast with 18 pins in them caused by an off track car accident in which he was passenger) so they refer to him as a mediocre driver. Whatever, I think he will have a similar career to JB, where once he gets the right car, he will challenge for the World title. Hopefully that is next year.

Robert is really good but sometimes looks like he needs to be a bit more aggressive. I would like to see him pass more then he does. I'd love to see him WC and I hope he'll get the right car next year but sometimes he looks a bit passive during a race. He can usually carry his position but not often improve on a track.
Good luck to you Robert and I am waiting for your real challenge for the top. You deserve it.

"Polish fans dont read Crash, apparently."
Well... This does not necessary has to be true :)

"But wait till he will win few races and start threatening or be in the middle of controversy involving Lulu, Vettel or Alonso."

This probably will turn out very true :) :) :)

Coming back to the subject... I'd rather see Robert sign only 2011 and later see what happens afterwards, if the car improves, sponsorship, etc. No need to sign further ahead. Being on this form, it'll be him anyway to play the cards choosing the team during 2011 season.

**. So many great comments. The guy has the talent and driving style of drivers years his senior. Its been said his looks don't sell but I tell you what, his driving does. I've said it from the year Hamilton won the championship that RK should have been standing in the champions glory. Renault are nowhere near what they were when Alonso won with them and I don't have the right to say he is a good as Alonso, but I tell you what put him in a RB, McClaren or Ferrari and his name would be as talked about as any of there drivers. His ability to finish so many races in the points this year is an attribution to his ability. Staying at Renault was always going to be his decision, because he knows they can only improve. If he starts winning races next year he is guaranteed bigger and better contracts in 2012. Robert wy jestescie mistrze.
