F1 » French GP will only return at a 'reasonable' price

Magny-Cours might be ramping up its efforts to secure the return of the French Grand Prix to the annual F1 calendar, but the circuit's new boss Serge Saulnier insists any financial negotiations must be at 'a reasonable level'

This is insane! Not having a US F1 race is disappointing but a willful failure to have an F1 race in France is insane. Could it be that there is a Francophobia in Bernie's well-stocked closet of phobias?

Bernie(carny fingers) took the US GP at Watkins Glenn to Long beach Ca. for obvious reasons. The powers that be wanted better accommodations and I can understand that. Where he screwed up is that he called the promoter of that race(Chris Pook)'s "bluff" that he would not replace it with a then growing CART race. Look what happened! CART grew huge and it was because we lost that race. They tried it in other places, Vegas, Detroit,Pheonix(total joke)then Indy and we can all remember what happened there! Bernie needs to care more for the sport in his final days and less about his wallet and things might work out. Money is important but you can only spend so much before it becomes boring. :-o

Eddie, I don't have any sympathy for BE, don't get me wrong, but he is only running F1 on behalf of the owners, who I believe are CVC, to whom he sold it for a fortune several years ago. All CVC are trying to do is to recover their investment and they employed BE to do this. It's called, as far as BE is concerned, having your cake and eating it. He got rich and stayed on as the guy running it. CVC don't care about racing, they just want to make money.

As far as France is concerned, I hope they have the strength to hold out and call BE's bluff. If only more tracks would do the same, he'd get the message, but then we'd have nothing to watch, and bitch over.

I think that one of the rights of being a team in F1 should be to have the choice of where to have a race and the remaining races could be sold by the commercial rights holder. So if renauld feel they need to have a race in france they should make that choice. The same for force india. And if a country wants a race either buy a team relocate it to your own track let it test whatever you like at your own track so you have the chance to shine. And the rest of the tracks that not want to spend to be a team pay the bernie price of being a show maker

Magny-Cours always seemed to have a grey overcast sky but the racing was good and varied and a lot of memorable moments happened there. It was easily better than Bahrain, better than the new namby-pamby Hockenheim and probably better than several other of the new tracks.
