I've no doubt that Alonso is the best driver in F1 currently, but there is no way their engines will hold up over the remainder of the season. Championship is extremely unlikely.

Never been an Alonso fan until this year. His tenacity and driving skills have won me over. It's also been interesting to see the Ferrari evolve into a contender as the season has progressed. You can tell Alonso is hungry for the 2010 title, where Massa has already packed it in for the year.

if ferrari can keep giving him a competitive car he can make the difference, two flawless victories heading to suzuka, the scene of fernando grinding schumacher/brawn/ferrari into dust in 06, the tifosi and luca might forget who schumacher is if fernando pulls this one out of his box of magic tricks . . . not quite a raikkonenesque feat, but pretty good

The reason why Ferrari has been after Alonso since the end of 2006, and why they have finally acquired his services and contracted him for three years at an exclusive $30Million a year is because Ferrari have known for a long time what Fernando Alonso is made of. After all in 2005 and 2006 he was the driver who took the WDC from them and from Michael Schumacher.

Mclaren were short sighted in dealing with Alonso, they could have had at least 2 if not 3 WDC & WCC out of him if they backed him as number 1 and after three years let him go in favour of Hamilton with all the knowledge he'd have gained during the three years as number two along side Alonso - Hamilton would probably be a more rounded driver than just a wildly fast one !
But I guess 1 WDC is better then none ! !

And if he's that good why the team orders to massa during the german gp.Surely a driver such as you describe Stefano doesn't need to have his team mate shackled.
Funny how massa's been performing since germany isn't it,over running his starting position a trick that didn't get penalised (must have upset ferrari),mysterious stops in qualifying so he has to start at the back in singapore.no team orders needed then is there stefano if massa keeps getting penalty's or fails to qualify.
