F1 » Prost: Schumacher F1 return betrayed 'a lack of humility'

Former multiple world champion Alain Prost argues Michael Schumacher should have downplayed his objectives for his ill-fated F1 2010 comeback - but says 'a lack of humility' prevented the German legend from doing so

When a plane crashes its usually a combination of factors. Its the same with MS. Age waits for no one but I think he has also softened as a person.. its just not the same Schumi.
But I DO think the tyres are a major factor and was saying this bf anyone else mentioned it on here, so lets see, if the pirellis are more suited then its down to Ross to supply the car

I am getting so tired of hearing Jordan and Prost run their mouths over Shumi's return. Has he been as successful as he or anyone else had hoped? No, but he is working hard and is getting faster and faster. I 100% back Schumi and really hope he comes back in 2011 and doesn't pay attention to what those *****s are saying. In my eyes, he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. He is the greatest F1 driver (statistically) of all time, Jordan and Prost are washed up and jealous of his successes. Keep going Schumi!

Folks - you are missing the point. Prost did not say MS would not succeed he said MS should have been more low key about his hoped for success.Yes if he had been in a RB then the results may well have been better etc.His capability is not in doubt - Prost rightly was pointing out a little humility would have meant the lack of results would be less humiliating. That was my point (see above)- a little of the famed English understatement would have been advisable

@Meymac Anthon
So he should have been more english in his statements?

A bit off topic but as far as I can remember the english footbal squad go into each World Championship claiming that they will win it, but they rather don't lol

I don't recall MS predicting that he would win the title or for that matter win any races. I do recall that he left the door open for those possibilities. You can't really blame him for that, given that Brawn won the previous year. If he is too old then that is really not something that you can knock him for. It is like fighting an old man. If you win you beat an old man and if he wins the old man beat you. Either way he is not the one who looks bad. Getting demoralized and quiting would be the only damage that he could do to his reputation and he doesn't appear to be doing either.

Seems that Schumi, Brawn, and the rest of the Mercedes hirearchy built up his return so highly that such backlash was to be expected if he did anything but when the championship. They should have been more subtle in announcing their expectations.

That being said the constant sniping the guys received since before the season got underway has caused me to root for the guy. Just for the sake of shoving foot in mouth of all the retired racers and other f1 socialites taking shots at the guy.

No I,m not getting on this bandwagon, I will wait until the 2011 season.

Shuey gave us his reasons. next season he will have a new car closer to his driving style, even tires will be different. By Monaco we can make judgment.

Prose, Bretore, and Eddie (the shirt) Jordan
stuff the bull some other place...I have no
doubt A 7 time WDC knows the score..Lets wait and see Sunday, Shuey the old fart just might
upset the apple cart....Cool!

jose. i dont know how you can assert that schumi will have a car closer to his driving style. the cars are so strictly controlled by rules, that merc, or any other team, will not have any scope to produce "individual" cars. and merc have already said that they will not build a car "for schumi". nico said the car was just as bad for him, so there was no preference this year. also nobody knows what the tyres will be like, i reckon pirelli will produce a conservative tyre, which ALL will have to adapt to. they wont make a tyre to schumis specification.
