With his grittily impressive Abu Dhabi performance looking to have secured him a stay-of-execution into 2011, Russian rookie Vitaly Petrov is now expected to sign a new contract with Renault F1 within weeks

Great news, he has been as quick as, even quicker than Kubica a few times.

Like with bikers, they say you can teach a quick rookie not to crash, but you cant teach a slow steady one to be fast.

Plus, what he did to Alonso ! I will always have a soft spot for him.

I think Petrov hasn't shown enough to be given such a potentially good seat. I want the better cars to have the best drivers so we can see more people up the front like this season past.

He drove well in front of FA, not letting him have any opportunities to overtake, although the track and car design also helped.

Hopefully, it focused his mind on what is needed at this level and 2011 will see him get better.

Petrov thoroughly deserves another year at Renault. Sure he's made mistakes but he is a rookie. Despite that there have been flashes of what he is capable of throughout the season.

I really would like to see in Renault somebody who could help Kubica. Unlike andrew I think that those flashes were not enough...even Sato had them...however, if he's bringing money I believe Renault will keep him. Would love to see Kimi in that Renault seat thought...I'm shure he would get a sponsorship from Finlandia or something...

I think a driver needs two complete seasons to be weighed fairly, so we'll have a better a better of what he can achieve with a rookie year under him.

But less excuses this time, especially since Renault can replace you with Aleshin if they need a Russian driver...

Remember Petrov had a great little scrap with Hamilton earlier in the season when Hamilton was trying to break the tow? But if Petrov resigns for Renault that's one less seat for Hulkenerg.
