Jenson Button defied those who had predicted he would be crushed by team-mate Lewis Hamilton at McLaren-Mercedes in F1 2010 - and his doggedly determined effort secures the British star sixth place in our end-of-season top ten countdown

My top 5 are:

Vettel: Stunningly fast all year.
Alonso: Came from nowhere in the second half of the year and made Massa look ordinary.
Kubica: Got 110% out of his car.
Webber: Strong throughout. Stayed focussed despite being no2 in the team.
Hamilton: Showed his class on occasions but too many errors.

Had McLaren had a better car the gap between them would be bigger. Lewis' pace was more than the car could handle, he had to overdrive it to make speed, that's why he had the driveshaft failure and the gearbox problem, and the errors.

And in Australia the team screwed up lewis big time. If he did not pit twice he would have caught jenson and passed him.

But it's not because Jenson went to lewis' team that people figured lewis would have him in check. If lewis had went to mercedes to join button, lewis would still have his number. Lewis is simply faster. That Brawn car could have won 10-15 races last year with Lewis or Fernando driving it.

I for one thought Button would be crushed at McLaren - but I humbly eat my words. Even though I still think Lewis is a faster - and generally better - driver, I truly think Button did a great job in his first year at McL.
I also think his focus on 2011 is correct in trying to better his qualifying performance - all though I think he needs to change his driving style quite a lot to be really fast on that one lap.

is jenson button the only world champion in history who cannot 'hustle' his car, this years champ vettel hustled his str before he joined rbr, the previouse champs this decade, hamilton, raikkonen, alonso and schumacher all hustled there cars, during the last ten races of jb's championship year, rubens barrichello hustled the brawn. it may have been great to see him right on his team mates rear wing when hamilton probably even racing him, but he did nothing when he had the oppertunity to harangue webbers crippled red bull. perfect driver for mclaren though, 'smoother'= slower = number 2

blzbub---you have a problem with Button that hints at some mental imbalance/obsession, you seem obsessed with running him down any chance you get. What is your issue with him(or yourself for that matter?).

blzbutt . . . i have no problem with him personally, i just think that for a world champion, he lacks quite a lot, you seem to have a bigger problem with my opinion of his performance, instead of running me down, explain to me why my impression of him is not correct, and dont say he's smooth and looks after his tyres, i do that when im driving to work!
