F1 » Massa dismisses claims F1 2011 is 'a crucial year' for him

Despite failing to shine in F1 2010 as he struggled to get a handle on Bridgestone's Potenza tyres, Ferrari's Felipe Massa is adamant that he is not under any extra pressure to produce results in 2011 to save his seat at Maranello

I'm afraid that the only results that he will be expected to produce are to finish just behind FA and score the team as many points as possible. He will not be allowed to race FA, nor to beat FA. Is this what we watch F1 for? I think not.

He has the whole next championship to prove he's able to beat Alonso, something very difficult if he performs the way he did this season.

Time to demonstrate he is a real title challenger.

And it's only normal that he should thump his chest with statements like this in the off season, like Rubens used to do. Timidly.

"Erm...I am confident for the new season. That I am able to win maybe 1...or 2 races"

The other problem for Massa is that he will come up against a ferociously intent Alonso, determined to beat the Red Bulls for what happened this season. If Massa thought this season was tough with Alonso as teammate, he better be ready by Bahrain!

If Alonso had sneaked the title, he might have relaxed a bit and allowed Massa a look in. But not now. Especially since Massa showed NO INTENT of helping him over the line, when it came to the crunch just a few weeks ago.
