at age 25, he is going to be a 'mature' rookie, williams have just finished the season with the previous gp2 winner, and while hulkenburg had a fairly middling car he did manage on at least one occasion to have a 'wow' moment, i dont know if 'the pastors' cash will get the team any nearer to the front, but for me personally if he/it helps williams, im happy.

He bought the seat with cash from a very poor country. How does that work then ? Venezuela is having a massive power crisis as the infrastructure is collapsing, there is widespread poverty, yet somehow the "Socialist" government can find the money to burn on vanity projects racing in F1.

My Chavez must be doing very well with all the joint Venezualan and Russian "Naval Excercises" just off his coast. I guess it must keep the smugglers away, the small ones that is.

I hope by putting a pastor in one of their car, God will be on their side, just like God was watching over Lewis Hamilton's Monaco win.

Let's pray for success!

Yep, i'm with you blz...

I will give Maldonado the benefit of the doubt and let him have his spot in F1 next season. Not sure he will do much better than the Hulk though.

Other GP2 stars have come and gone, struggled to adapt to F1 and i don't think this example will be any different.

I'm open to be proven wrong though - but at 25 the expectations will be higher than on a rookie of 19 (Vettel back then, for example)

F1 is a joke, it should be the best racers. Too many cars circulating, just making up numbers as 3-4 cars actually battle for the win.

Well maybe we'll see an overtake next season - followed by 200 replays...... Yawn.......

Bring back the 70's cars on modern rubber, that'd thin out the ****e drivers pretty quickly.

where does... in a socialist country, ALL people are equal, but some are more equal than others! basically the poor of venezuela will be paying for pastors seat.
he may prove to be reasonable, but it is a pity that frank has to follow the money, rather than follow the results.

I cant believe Sir Frank has sunk so low as to take money knowing where its coming from. Maldonado should be ashamed of himself knowing money got him the seat not his skill. Im finding it hard to pull for Williams these days...

Everybody here is focusing on the money but the fact is Pastor is the GP2 champ with all the personal records for that category. Besides, if you dont know F1 history you should be ashamed of giving biased opinions.
In 1972 and 1973 a certain paydriver took huge loans to buy a seat at March and BRM. This paydriver was called Niki Lauda.
In 1991 Mercedes paid $150000 dollars to get a certain German driver into the Jordan F1 team at Spa. This paydriver was called Michael Schumacher.
And the list keeps going on....
