While I understand the value of associating a new team to an old Marque, which has established a character of its own, I can't understand how Proton is to benefit from all these.

The Lotus Racing cars in 2010 had the Proton logo on them. In 2011, they will hv Renault engines. The same constellation as this new Lotus Renault!
Anyone confused just reading the paragraph above?

I am not trying to say who have the right to the Lotus name, but Fernandez team Lotus have certainly beaten Bahar/Proton in the first step to go racing under the Lotus name next year, and the fact that they were accepted by the FIA/BE will go some way in their favour.

Will these two still be smiling when they play catch up from the back of the grid and the real Lotus challenges for the championship....Fernandes & Gascoyne so very much last year

It seems to me Tony Fernandez as Colin Chapman did is doing it for the racing, whereas proton are doing it for the publicity / promotion of a brand

As far as I can read into this whole story.

Team Lotus went into administration in 1994, David Hunt made a bid for the team and it was accepted, he raced Team Lotus for the final 2 races of 1994 (Suzuka & Adelade) and gave Mika Salo his debut!

As far as I can see from that, David Hunt owned Team Lotus, Tony Fernandes brought the licencing/branding from Hunt. That to me suggests Team Lotus returned to F1 in 2010.

Proton is part of group Lotus... the cars... Chapman always kept the team and the cars separate for finance reasons... if one went bust, the other would still be there!

Proton may have the badge but Fernandez has the soul of Lotus!

This is going to be one confusing subject that will probably change again before the season starts.

Are the owners of Proton not some great rivals of Fernandez ?

Is this not all just Billionaires Handbags from the owners of Lotus Road Cars who got miffed that former Branson sidekick Fernandes restarted the iconic Lotus racing team and branding right from under their noses ?

I dont undertand what Fernandez is getting out of using Lotus name. It seems the costs may be higher than gains.

Lotus group is being advertised without having to pay for it while Fernandez had to pay for the right to use Team Lotus name.
