I like the new points system. Is not right that only the top six or top eight drivers gathers points in a race, where are 24 drivers in a race. And id not right that drivers like Hamilton which won 3 races are ahead of Webber( which won 4 races) or such near to Alonso and Vettel which won 5 races respectively. Remember the 2008 season, when Hamilton clinched the title and Massa won one more race than Hamilton. These thing led to the change of the point system.

In the end... the points system change did not make a great deal of change to the championship standings.

However what it has done is allowed teams lower in the field to score points... which I agree is a cheap way... seeing that Williams would have scored just 6 points this season on a system where 18 years ago they dominated and one of their drivers managed to get into the 3 figure mark!

It has ruined the history of the points system... Vettel scored 21.64 points less this season than Fangio did in his whole career... to me that doesn't sound right!

However the old system was good when cars were unreliable, it meant that the slower teams could nick a point now and then and it meant alot to them! That won't happen now so the FIA had to do something to allow the lower teams get a chance of reaching the points.

@ Daytona

That's because Heidfeld is a hell of a lot better driver than quite a few of the guys who raced this season, doesn't matter what points system is being used.

@ James M

Vettel will obviously have more points in a season than Fangio, because there are so many more races now! Hopefully, when F1 statistics are compiled from now on, they will take into account the change in the points system, and have pre-2010 stats, or yes it will make a mockery of the 'most points scored' table.
