F1 » Mercedes shun Marko's claim they are chasing Vettel

Seemingly taking a break from Mark Webber-bashing, controversial Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has now attracted the ire of Norbert Haug for accusing Mercedes Grand Prix of endeavouring to poach Sebastian Vettel

Rob: "Just a story. Why would he go to a midpack team."

I agree that its probably just a story, but people said the same thing when rumours started that Mansell was moving to Ferrari, and even more so later on when people started talking about Schumacher moving from his championship winning Beneton to the mid-pack Ferrari. I know I was one of them who was quite disbelieving and said Michael Schumacher was mad if he was willing to give up a great race car and the chance of another WDC just because of the obscene amount of dosh that Ferrari were offering. How wrong was I?

Midpack team? This is the factory Mercedes we are talking about. 2010 was their FIRST season. I don't see a reason why Vettel couldn't go from Red Bull (wtf team is this?) to Mercedes. Just like Schumi went from Benetton to Ferrari.

Merc going to need another season or two or three. Mcl will have to carry the Merc badge to the podium on a regular basis. This isn't your old Merc team. They will still be mid pack next year.

I've said it before - there is nothing more enticing for a young german kid than the thought of driving for Mercedes or a BMW. Sure the Ferrari is on the list just like the spanish girlfriends are...

Team bosses are not stupid, everyone can see Vettel is the fastest guy in F1 and now with a championship under his belt he will more than likely evolve into the best all rounder to replace Alonslow.

The team Vettel will likely join is probably Ferrari with Mclaren and Mercedes just behind waiting to see what happens, if Newey's nailed this year's car design and also reliability then god help Ferrari/Alonso, Mclaren/Hamilton, Mercedes/MSC because this kid will just breeze through the lot of them.

This Marko guy is the only negative in a really decent team. Seems while everyone else in the team has kept their feet firmly planted, the title success has gone to his head & he needs his name in the press every day now.
