I think the point of the launch date is that it unveils the official livery and is organised as a jolly day out for the sponsors and an opportunity to butter up the press with wine and salmon sandwiches.

@Alan D Yes, I would love to be at the launch and share the Italian Wine and Sandwitches and here the fantastic sound of a new Ferrari engine, and even get Felipe and Alonso's autographs maybe! Bring it on Forsa Scuderia

It needs so many people to start the car these days that I'd be surprised if they run the engines. On the YouTube videos I've seen of these things they just have a car on a podium with a big silk cloth draped over it so that they can "unveil" it.

Given that they go to such lengths at the start of the season to do things like hide the rear end from the competition, I expect they just put a minimal shell up there while all those press people are wandering around with cameras. Here is a video of them hiding the rear end when Massa pits in 2010 testing:

Last year the Ferrari at launch had a wonderful sleek lines
