F1 » Anyone without KERS in F1 2011 'will be making up the numbers'

McLaren-Mercedes technical director Paddy Lowe warns those teams running without KERS in F1 2011 - Team Lotus, Virgin Racing and Hispania Racing (HRT) - to prepare for a long season indeed...

To get some perspective, didn't the small teams not use it for time/cost reasons? Lowe pretty much says 'it was a big project', which in F1 terms can mean hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

Only one new team even grabbed any prize money last year, most of which is going into lawyer's pockets to prevent them losing the lot through an enforced name change.

Shock, horror, stop the press, Paddy Lowe is a genius, a noble prize winner for working out that last years back markers will still be this years back markers, someone give that man a pat on the back for being so brilliant, as none of us expected that HRT and Virgin will be much better this year.

What I said yesterday about teams not going forwards equals going backwards. Well, this is a case in point. How can Virgin or HRT look at going forwards when they don't have KERS? This'll keep them at the back of the field. They won't overtake any cars in front with KERS.

KERS..Another push button go fast device. Really KERS is just another expensive driver aid.
My question is simple..WHY, for what reason?
The performance of a F1 car today is staggering,
overwhelming to watch, (and drive) do we really
need another driver zoom button??
Really NUTS..A movable wing to promote overtaking.
you got the button? push the button, out brake the
other guy?? ...YO! Dude, just push the button.
KERS = Driver's talent, Joke!!
KERS the Expense..Damnable, really its not needed.

Promotion through competition is part of any sport. Team Lotus seems to be on its way to establish itself. If this team succeeds in doing that, it will be a good thing.

If the others who attempted fold, they'll be replaced by other entrants. That's life, I have nothing against that. So, IMV allowing new teams to have a go (in a decently serious effort) is a normal aspect of F1.

There are current road cars with the KERS technology already being used. And don't worry Honestly, by 2013 you will have your wish of everyone having the same stuff. Series will spec by then. Nascar without fenders.

"McLaren has opted for a pullrod suspension a la defending double world champions Red Bull Racing, and Lowe hints at far more shrewd innovations beneath the MP4-26's surface, invisible to the naked eye."

It's hardly an innovation if you're copying it from someone else.
