Hispania elects to miss Jerez test to aid Pirelli in filming work

I guess they'll get a fee from the Pirelli filming, which shows where their priorities lie. If they haven't got a car, they won't get sponsors. Without sponsors, they won't be around long.

In any case, I really wonder if Pirelli want them.

Well their launch isn't planned until after the test anyway so whatever they would have done in Jerez they could probably do some of in Monza instead. Pirelli may cough up a healthy paycheck for all we know, they could also benefit from working closely with Pirelli engineers, who knows? Also, I'm thinking they'll probably use a specific Pirelli livery when filming for them anyway.

I wonder what they will be doing when they are assisting Pirelli in Monza? If they are running a car around the track then surely that still counts as "testing" and isn't all the testing regulated nowadays? The cars at Jerez will still be limited in the number of tyres they are allocated for testing, so suppose it was Ferrari or Mclaren doing this. People would be up in arms saying they are getting extra tyre testing not available to other teams. I'm guessing Pirelli asked HRT to do it because the filming will involve a lot of super slow motion shots.

Richard, so why did so many teams turn up at the last session with last year's car? You can get a lot of valuable data about the tyres by running them on a platform where you already have good metrics. But that's not the point. If Mclaren or Ferrari was doing this, people would find reasons to call it "cheating".

Its probably because of money. But as someone said they are there for 3 days and will probably do some pirelli testing there as well. Are they really going to be filming for all 3 days? How much can you do with just one car?

Alan, they probably did it to get more tyre data before finalising their 2011 chassis. Which decision was the right one will show I suppose. HRT are still in a peculiar situation though because unlike Virgin and "Lotus", who had to rush things last season but have had more time to work on their chasses this year, HRT have again ended up having to rush things and are also making their first own chassis.

alan. granted that the first test was to collect data, but in reality, a lot of the data would be pretty worthless, due to new aero, weight distribution etc. but at the next test, all the major teams will be running 2011 cars, as they will be fine tuning their figures. hrt will go to the first race, with no up to date info, and probably with no up to date car.

@richard Ya u are right HRT would be at a disadvantage in the 1st grand prix in terms of the new car.

But, they will do a test in bahrain with the new car before the season and remember that these days the first of the season is fully devoted to the development of the present car and so they can utilize the first few grand prixs to improve their, like the other teams.

Also they will be doing testing with the old car and i am sure the info they get from here albeit not perfect, would be useful.
