"But then the Venezuelan is tied into Force India and Mercedes, whereas Heidfeld is a free agent"

Erm I thought the Hulk was German, thats not a Venezuelan accent he's got :p

Give the proof reader a slap (if such a thing exists)

With the new aero, Pirellis, KERS, and Renault's blown floor they need an experienced driver who can develop the car over 6 months or more. Senna may or may not be quick but he has no experience in developing a decent F1 car - last year's junkpile does not count.

What would they do if Heidfeld went and won the championship, they would hardly then want to get rid of the No1 and Petrov has a contract for next year

DJ, I think they'd be more than happy if that's the problem they face. And if it did happen, they might say that everyone has underrated Heidfeld and they are keeping him and dropping Kubica. If RK is out for a year then he will need to prove himself before he gets a race seat.

Too bad that Boullier mucked up any chances of snagging Kimi this year.

And by "too bad" I mean for me - as I am a huge Raikkonen fan and still believe he would kick a.. on the black and gold car.

Heidfeld is a good driver, experienced and quick but also has experience developing the new pirellis!
Possibly the right choice but i would love to see Senna get the chance. Its basically still unknown how good he is at this level and this would be his chance to shine.
Hope this Renault outfit give him a race seat even if it were just for a couple of races with Heidfeld there either as standby or to start the season??
If he doesn't get a chance then Lotus Renault are fools for not giving him a go.

i would have love to see that lotus with senna´s helmet on, its would just have been so wonderful to remember the same colours driven by Ayrton. Heidfeld is a forever mid class driver he wont do much, i dont think that he is the right choice i dont think he will be capable to beat Petrov.
