Maldonado walks away okay but I sure hope he brought a lot of sponsorship money with him because it looks like he's just lost his no claims bonus.

Daytona, if they did that then the drivers would just be told to take it real easy on those two timed laps to make sure they don't give away useful info to the other teams.

something odd going on with schumi. he goes out on new tyres, puts in one good lap , and then despite lightening loads, he gets slower and slower. either the tyres are cooling down too much, or they are overheating. looks more likely they are overheating, and if that is the case, he would struggle in a race. there are some reports that seven laps is the max that he is getting from the tyres.

Richard, earlier in the day it was commented on that Massa was going out and doing fast laps followed by several slow laps followed by fast laps again, which seemed to be part of a test plan, so maybe the drivers don't go out hell for leather all the time. Maybe they were testing performance against tyre temperature.

Both Schuey and Massa have done long stints today and I think that MS's slowest time in a long stint has been 1.27.6 compared to Massa 1.29.3.
