Following a number of stains on his character over the past week, double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso has hit back by asserting that he is in the sport to win, 'not to make friends'

Being British, I am supposed to Hate Fernando Apparently. Well, I don't! I love Racing. And I love Racers! Fernando is a racer, and a bloody good one! Don't get me wrong, he has pulled some fast ones in his time, but hey. Init to winit!

I seem to remeber people saying the same thing about Senna, that he had a flawed character and tried to win at all costs. Now he's remembered as (one of) the greatest of all time, which is exactly what Alonso wants to acheive. Time will tell.

Take some lessons from Valentino Rossi. Laid back, funny and media friendly on the outside.. Cool, calculating & ruthless on the inside. Thats how you win championships and friends at the same time.

Jimmy, it is one thing to be hard men and go a bit psycho out on the race track as both Senna and Schumacher were known to have done in the heat of battle. It is quite another to calculatingly blackmail your team boss or try to pressure him into short fuelling your competition before a race.

The more I read and hear about what Alonso gets up to, the less convinced I am of comparisons between him and Senna or Schumacher.
