The BBC has allegedy included F1 among candidates for the axe in a bid to cut the amount it spends on sports programming by £60m a year.

The BBC commissioned a report into its sporting rights, and that report concluded that F1 was the corporation's most cost effective sport.

F1 Cost per Viewer Hour = Hit
F1 Cost per Viewer = Hit
F1 Actual Reach 54% = Hit
F1 Actual Live Rating = Hit

Whereas other BBC sports came out of the report badly.

Euro 2008 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Euro 2008 Actual Reach 35.2% = N/A
Olympics 2008 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Olympics 2008 Actual Reach 42% = Miss
Olympics 2008 live Rating = Miss
Open Golf 2009 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Open Golf 2009 live Rating = Miss
Snooker 2009 Cost per Viewer Hour = Miss
Snooker 2009 live Rating = Miss

If F1 is dropped by the BBC, it will not be done with cost saving in mind, as other sports consume more of the licence fee per hour and per viewer, it will be done because those in charge at the BBC favour one sport over another, and have little regard for the licence payer.

the BBC have been blessed by having a brit in title contention every year!

people complaining about hammonds salary. yet, top gear is BBCs most profitable program and every week gets far more viewers than any F1 race......

everyone complaining about sky :(

just pay the subscription and watch sport in all its glory :)

darts/football/rugby/motogp on BBC is embarrassing once youve experienced skysports and ESPN

I am worried by this news. Not because of F1. But if the BBC are planning on cost cutting then MOTOgp coverage is doomed and I cannot afford Eurosport coverage, end of.
Just goes to show how little the BBC care about Motogp, when a week away from the season they dont even advertise it is about to start. Let alone show any coverage on their news bulletins (considering they dont have to pay for the snippets on the news this is bizarre).

I got to say i find it very concerning that the beeb is thinking about droppping F1, I've always found thier coverage of other sports (football, athletics, darts, snooker, motogp) to be pretty substandard compared with "the evil corporation" sky, however they have fanatastic production/coverage for F1 and i never thought that ITV were that bad until the switch was made to the beebs fairer, more in depth coverage, but regardless of which channel F1 is aired on I'll still tune in every other week regardless, as will most people on here i suspect.

Other than the odd bit of news and MotoGP the only other thing worth watching 99% of the time on the BBC is the F1.

Maybe the BBC could save a fair bit of cash by stopping the usual Saturday night programming consisting of so called celebrities that most people havn't heard of dressing in lycra and jumping about with a film or the test card or even better - a blank screen.

If MotoGP and F1 goes from the BBC then there will be no point in paying the license fee and I be aswell deleted the BBC channels from my freeview box.

There is no character in F1 any more. I can easily do without it on BBC if it wishes to scrap it. I am no footy fan either so Linekar (who is probably a millionaire anyway) can stay at home too. Maybe they can try IndyCar particularly the 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' - that is the INDY 500!!!

Better idea, axe Radio 1 and 3 and banish the Radio 1 presenters to the nether world, and also take Chris Evans as well.

Then axe the CBBC or Cbeebies coverage of the F1, and get rid of EJ the annoying Irish prick.

F1 should be retained and the motogp should be left to those channels that show it. Why buy the rights and only shoe a very small percentage of what you paid for?
Drop the motogp and is so called presenters and keep F1.

Radio 1, crap. Radio 2, crap. BBC news 24, crap. Easenders, crap. Tonights tv schedule, crap, tuesdays tv schedule, crap. TV schedule for the whole week, crap.
Why pick on the sports when the 2 primary TV, and the 2 primary radio station are an insult to licence payers.
