F1 » Red Bull 'three-to-five tenths' ahead of the pack

Although Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were knocked down from the top of the timesheets during FP2 in Melbourne today, Adrian Newey still reckons the Red Bull Racing RB7 is comfortably the car to beat in F1 2011

i would reckon so.

in fp2, they were doing long runs on hard tyres for most of it, then switched to the grippier option when the temp dropped thanks to wind, rain and sun going down. where as mclaren and ferrari set their fast times at start of fp2.

On one side Red Bull have their designer claiming they are 3 to 5 tenths ahead of the pack, a huge amount in F1 terms, yet on the other side they are trying to get the movable wing banned because they are worried their car is not fast enough? And they wonder why the other teams did not agree to banning it.

I agree that they are the fastest car on the grid.McLaren only wants to keep high their morale with their times in FP2 but is much to come from RB7 and 150 Italia tomorrow. So I claim that they are faster(especially Red Bull) than the mp4-26.But this is for Melbourne. In Sepang with their long straights,Ferrari and McLaren can challenge them properly. But I want to see tomorrow results before to make any further verdicts.Because I am sceptic for McLaren potential in the first few races. Is impossible in the race to finish in a one-two positions for them, because they hasn't the real pace to challenge Red Bull.

@Firestorm: hope your crystal ball also gives the weather forecast. As for now its all assumptions until the the lights go green and the checkered flag flys down.

True that Newey is THE guy to have in its team and Mecca have big potential like Ferrari...but for the three, I want to see their reliability on the long run in a race before saying anything.
