“We are enormously proud of what we have achieved in just 18 months, and we have done it through hard work and dedication, not by buying seemingly instant success through stickers on a car.

18 months they had their 500th race last season

and they spent about £200 million he could have bought Sauber for £35 million and be scoring points by now what a numpty

I see that Mini mentioned their '60's rallying heritage (having since been bought by BMW) at the launch of their Prodrive WRC car yesterday - maybe Fernandes wants to muscle in on that one if he loses the Team Lotus hijack. javascript:insertTextCursor('comment',%20'')

Surely they should just both change their names? Neither of them is the actual Team Lotus.

Or maybe we can just get every team to add Lotus to their name somewhere. McLaren Lotus, Red Bull Lotus, Ferrari Lotus, etc...

I hope the judge locks Fernandes & Gascoyne up or transports them to Australia for what they are doing to the iconic name Team Lotus, only in it for the money. They are not needed and not wanted in F1

erm Dave, have you ever been to Australia? It's a very nice place, I wouldn't send them there. I'd make them live in Swindon, that would be a far worse punishment.
But yeah agree with everything else you said.

@Ronald McDonald
Thats a bit harsh mate, we could hold a decent F1 race on the magic roundabout, loads of overtaking chances. I reckon i could stand in as a driver, no one can get past me in traffic on there. Anyhow you must like Swindon coz we have loads of your Ronald McDonand 5 star resturants here.
Only problem would be spectator safety with the amount of single teenage mums and pushchairs in attendance

Lotus verdict expected next week?

We gave our verdict weeks ago, stop using what aint yours. Let Team Lotus name stay in our memories as a tribute to a great man Colin Chapman not dragged through the mud by Fernandes and Gascoyne

I'm sick and tired of Fernandes' 'Team Lotus' bring treated like they're the bad guys. They're certainly no worse than Group Lotus. If you want to quibble on which is the 'real' Lotus, it is Fernandes' 'Team Lotus', the F1 team. It will never, ever compare to Lotus under Chapman but I don't hear anyone singing the same tunes for Mclaren when Ron Dennis took charge after the tragic passing of the late Bruce Mclaren. Group Lotus are all about the money. To an extent, so is Tony Fernandes but I feel like he actually respects the 'Team Lotus' heritage, Group Lotus do not. Team Lotus won't last unfortunately but maybe it's a good thing so people here can get on their high horse. I wonder if Fernandes has to change the name (which he shouldn't have to do) whether the people will start on Renault and Group Lotus? I bet they will because not many commenters here can be satisfied.

sokudo

Lotus only sponsor Renault and they are the only group that own the brand name.

Fernandes now back peddles on the heritage bit but last year in Valencia he bragged that it was their 500th race, they printed a book and tee shirts claiming the heritage They still have in their hospitality life size photos of Colin Chapman and Jim Clark thats not correct

Agree on the back peddling Spencer but still I understand what sokudo meant on how Fernandes is being labeled the "bad guy." Most of the comments about him from posters have been negative to the point of being rude to outright harsh since this naming dispute started and its getting out of hand.

"Let Team Lotus name stay in our memories as a tribute to a great man Colin Chapman not dragged through the mud by Fernandes and Gascoyne."

If that is the case Tom, then Renault should not be using the Lotus name either.
