F1 » Sponsorship shortfall to cost d'Ambrosio his Virgin seat?

If his sponsors do not swiftly cough up what they have promised, F1 2011 rookie Jérôme d'Ambrosio could find himself replaced at Virgin Racing by the team's reserve driver Robert Wickens, it appears...

As much as it would suck for him to lose his ride due to sponsorship, as a Canadian I would love to see Wickens take over and bring Canada back to F1.

Virgin need to have conviction in their pursuit of a place in the field. Having conviction/faith in their drivers plays an important part in that. F1 is a tough and expensive game, but if you want to improve you can't just chop and change drivers like a dipping sauce at a buffet.

Man they pay that kind of money to Boullier's Virgin team..Ambrosio maybe your sponsors are thinking just how much bang for the buck they will get advertising on Virgin's flying turtle.

This would be bad if he left. He's outperforming Timo Glock. But Timo is getting paid. Same raw deal Karun was dealt at HRT. He outperformed Bruno but Bruno was the one getting paid.

All the sponsors know who owns the team, and they want to hang on the coat tail just in case Richard Branson decides to finally splurge on it. He has as much money as anyone in the paddock.

He could pay up both driver if he wanted, and pull out all the stops to get a competitive team. But it seems it's just another accessory in his portfolio.

FunkyJ - You really are a **** aren't you?
What a stupid and thoughtless comment to make. Why get rid of them? Perhaps you fail to remember that teams like Mclaren / Ferrari / Renault / Williams were all new once and all at some stage in their existence have had bad and lean times.
Perhaps you like to see a single make / single engined series - my that would be interesting !!!

Spare a thought for the 100's of hard working people who work for the 3 new teams. Yes, they all want to be at the front but they need time / money and experience. You can't buy that so let them be and if you're really that unhappy with them being in F1 then switch off and do something else.

Maybe I am a ***** but these new teams have no racing or automotive heritage. The could save money and just buy a GP2 car and race that and be just as competitive.

I agree that everyone has to start somewhere but they can start somewhere else other than F1.

The business model of f1 is so topsy turvy, that substandard drivers can pay for a drive in 2nd rate teams is an insult to the fans.
