The problem with a 5 year contract, is that if things turn sour then it is a heck of a long contract to pay out. Having said that, you wonder what break clauses are in the contract and whether they really have mutually stitched each other up for the next 5 years.

Nothing about this contract surprises me. If Alonso performs, and I think he will, he's earned his keep. If not Ferrari will pay to have Alonso released. I have no tears for Maranello. For what it's worth, it seems like a perfect match.
