Jean Todt gives a lifeline to V8 engines in F1 by suggesting they could run alongside the new 1.6-litre turbo engines in 2013

we have a two tier championship as it is. bringing in an equivalency formula will make it even worse. all teams will have to abide to whichever engine rule persists. dont forget, concorde is to be resigned next year, and if the four major teams rebel, then the turbos will be past news!

Still I do not understand the role of the FIA to it's fullest. But how can Todt shove the new engine formula down the teams throat? Who is making the rules? How can he say I don't care and that by 2013 they will change regardless of who wants what by the teams?

Unlike most folks I think this could be a good way to go.

Formula 1 has been growing closer to a spec series with the tight restrictions and allowing vastly different configurations to aim for the same goal could open things right up.

Admittedly it would be tricky to implement the equivalency factors but it could open up tech and manufacturers and increase competition in a natural way wonderfully.
As it is NOW there is little or no reason for a lot of manufacturers to be interested in engine development- they do little with V8s and don't care much.

F1 needs the noise of a V8, or V6 or whatever engine, I remember the 80's turbo F1 not much noise, not much fun at the track, as a fan by the track you can here what the driver is doing,by the engine revs, all this green rubbish is just jumping on the band wagon, as BE said all the fuel used on the tour de France over a month by the hundred's of cars, no one says a thing about, F1 is for about 6 hours over a weekend, China and Inda are still building coal fired power station, that pump vast amounts of co'2 into the air, leave f1 alone, it works fine.

In my opinion, 1.6 turbo is Gay. So gay that F1 fan will disappear rapidly on 2013. BE is right, people come to F1 to hear the noise, the Sound Pressure... I think the 1.6 will just sound like a fart of a fatman sitting on a lazyboy coach.
