usf1. nifty is totally correct. i dont know if you were watching the race and heard the radio messages. there were a number of times when the kers pack was showing full, but there was no discharge. and his pits told him not to touch kers. seb also said that he had to spend time altering balance to compensate for lack of kers. when kers is not in use, there is less drag on the transmission, requiring altered balance. perhaps you should do the research!

f1 should be about the fastest driver's in the fastest cars racing each other for the win. Instead it has become all about tyre management and strategy. Even quali is boring as the drivers cannot sacrifice tyres for anything more that a one lap attempt. Schumi didn't even bother with Q3 and rather saved tyres. Though the racing has been interesting it is too manufactured by the rules.

Never did I claim that Vettel's KERS was fine the whole race.
Just the opposite, in fact.

But the fact remains that he DID have sporadic use of KERS throughout the race, including specifically the last 3 laps, although not the 7 laps prior to that.

Vettel was adjusting brake balance and KERS charging strength to compensate for how the KERS was working at any given time. These things were fairly clear to anyone able to hear the occasional team radio chat we heard in the US during the race broadcast.

If my points are unclear, please read my past comments on this story. If I have been offensive to anyone, I do apologize but I get frustrated when 99% of the reported evidence by multiple DIFFERENT sources say the same thing and yet one SINGLE source makes a different claim- and that one disagreeing source is constantly quoted as "fact."

Please refer to mulitiple different sources OTHER THAN WHAT SABINA SAID IN THE INTERVIEW. I want specific sources saying that Sabina had KERS during the last three laps.....btw I've also found actual transcripts of race coverage....that confirm my statement.

And here is the quote from James Allen's article:

It was Vettel's 14th career win and one of his most hard fought with Hamilton's pressure very intense. Vettel did not have KERS for much of the race, yet another reliability issue which he had to deal with in qualifying and the race. Sooner or later that is going to really start costing them, especially as McLaren are right there on race pace.

End quote.

Note his use of the word "much".

He didn't say "never had KERS."

End of story.

Again, this is a quote from a second article from JA: "Saw his run of five consecutive pole positions come to an end when teammate Webber pipped him by 2 10ths in qualifying. Jumped the Australian at the start but lost the lead to a fast starting Alonso. But a superior strategy got him ahead of race leader Alonso at the second stops. Despite NO KERS HE HELD OFF A LATE CHARGE FROM HAMILTION to secure his fourth victory in five races this season."

This piece was written after the original you were quoting so your "END OF STORY" is not really an end unless you choose to hide your head in the sand. Again, if you have any evidence other than the interview with Sabina please refer me to it and I may reconsider my position. Until then, I need to punt.

And what exactly does James Allen know that Vettel doesn't? You found a story you are putting your hat on and now holding guns. Who cares fiddy. You believe what you want and the rest of us can go on what Seb relayed not once but multiple times. You are beating a dead horse and did so on another thread.

You may call it a beating of a dead horse. I have read an official lap-by-lap BBC transcript that clearly states that on lap 65 "Kers is off on Vettel's Red Bull", and that's at the begining of the lap. So if KERS was off during the last lap who is to say it was't off during the previous two laps. Certainly I'm leaning on Allen and BBC on this one for now until somebody comes up with something more than their personal take on what had happened in the cockpit.

i am confused on whose side i am on, as most are saying the same thing. for approx half the race, seb had no kers, as evidence in the red light not showing a discharge. towards the end, and just before the commentators said it, you could see the discharge of kers. but we do not know at what stage it became operative. nobody watching the race can know if it was working over the last three laps, se we must believe what seb says, until someone in the know, says different. anyway, the race is over, seb won, kers or no kers. if he had kers, then mclaren have caught up, but not enough as even drs could not help them. if no kers, seb deserves a medal, and newey a knighthood!

I am sure he will be knighted as they hand those out like candy. He did a fine job but being able to beat anyone on the grid around the corners is the reason he was able to win without KERS. I still believe that he sometimes had the system. As that is what he said. Hopefully, he is not fibbing. Remember that's not allowed.
