People seem to forget that it was the Non-blown diffuser teams that approached Charlie Whiting about this is the first place that started this whole thing. Problem is and as we have seem, there is no good way to address this in the middle of the season.

If they wanted to kill the "hot/cold blown" diffusers, why didn't they just make the periscope exhausts mandatory for the British GP? That way everyone can keep there overrun mappings, exhaust cooling mappings w/e.

I mean, that would've gotten the desired results right?

I get the whole middle of the season rule change issue, but if they were going to do it regardless, this is the best solution.

And what about your AlfaLux Niki:-) anyway, people tent to never learn from mitakes: turbo and nonturbo era mix... provided same dismal seasons like 1988. Obviosly FIA and Charlie are against 2000 smart people in those teams and many more in the industry, they cant predict all novelties and their compilation with rules. I dont blame them, but truth is: rules are rule and cant be changed over the course like this... only when it is clear advantage or danger.

The only time this season that it's been really visible to the average fan was when Heidfeld hit Kobayashi in Canada. Things like this just confuse spectators as the casual fan switching it on won't understand all the talk about it and which cars have it. F1 therefore loses casual fans all because of this situation which has been blown (no pun intended) totally out of proportion. It will just run and run now won't it. The FIA are superb when it comes to shooting themselves in the foot.
